PDGA 2000 US Disc Golf Championship Posted: 01-08-02 By Blake Takkunen - the Webmaster - <blake@discgolfreview.com> My Review: Running Time: 80 Minutes Tape Speed: SP Location: Rock Hill, SC Featured Golfers: Commentators:: Bucky Worboys, Sam Ferrans Picture Quality: A- Sound Quality: A- Final Round Coverage: A- Extra Footage: B- Commenatry: A Educational Value: B Overall Rating: A- With several camera angles and clean footage, the 2000 USDGC video is one of the more aesthetically pleasing videos to watch. Set at the Winthrop University Gold Course, a variety of shots are featured as well as some very challenging holes upwards of 1000 feet. The camera angles are very action oriented and for the most part keep the disc in a nice frame of reference. the typical shots begin behind the thrower and then the flight of the disc is followed by a camera near the basket. Although this makes it pleasant to watch, it can get rather monotnous as many of the holes are long and open (although tight with O.B.) and there isn't much emphasis on the thrower's mechanics. The commentary is more in depth than many other videos, with mentions of technique, strategy, and shot selection and they aren't afraid to say what a thrower did wrong to make an errant throw. They do mention some of the thrower's discs by name, there is a bias as only the Innova discs are mentioned by name, which makes sense since they were one of the main sponsors. I just feel that it would be nice to have a video that tells us straight up a player's sponsor and disc selection shot by shot. Overall, this is a solid disc golf video. It's not the most educational, but it does add some insights into the game itself as well as getting a chance to see top caliber disc golf on one's television. Submit Your Review Back to Main Page |
