Postby mcrow » Fri Jul 20, 2007 2:06 pm

In MN, I think ,the longest 18 holer is:

Giants Ridge-10278ft

Which is the longest of the courses in your state?

I don't know if it still is, but my hometown of Miami, Ok was the longest at 8,000 ft. Blue Valley in KC is over 11,000

Warwick in NY plays almost 9000ft from the longest tees to the far baskets. Moraine State Park in PA clocks in at around 8300 with a couple of holes in the 800-900ft range.

The pro tees at Leviathan here in Ludington plays somewhere around 12,000' at par 64 (soon to be 65). We're changing hole 12 to make it a legitimate par 5 so there is now a par 5 on the front and the back.

#4 plays 805'. The birdie is impossible without key placement of two shots. Par gets increasingly difficult if a drive lands too far left. Any shot in the rough requires a dump back onto the fairway 9 times out of 10. The forest that the course is built on had the old growth hard wood logged over a decade ago so the rough is thick with young oak trees and small shrubs.

I haven't played it, but Blue Valley is supposed to be sick. A guy GPS'd his game there and he walked 4.2 miles and had a verticle range of 155 feet.

Need to update that list, Lowe, I think Sarasota, Ozark and Stillwater are gone and Winthrop isn't much without the USDGC setup. Silver Creek was a temp setup and might have been more than 18 holes. Hudson Mills is 24 holes.

There's a new course in Centralia, IL plus Moraine and Deer Lakes in PA. The Highbridge Gold course played 9710 for Pro Worlds with the "short" tees at 7945. Granite Ridge played at 8205. Neither of those were in their maxed out pin positions.

The longest configuration at Peninsula Park in Iowa City is a shade over 8500. It's the configuration being played by the Advanced/Pros this year at the Iowa State Championships, and it's going to be a BEAST!

It also appears Wynodette County Park (WyCo) in the KC area is 8600, or at least the configuration played for the wide open.

Horseshoe Canyon is also over 800 I believe. I know the pdga has it at 8000, but I really think it's more in the 9000 range.

And yes, Blue Valley in championship configuration is the biggest course you'll ever play. It's a sick course, but unless you throw in the 450 range, you're not going to score. If you shoot in the 380 range max (like me), you'll be lucky to break par (67).

Downtown Denver, Colorado
Lakewood Dry Gulch ( we all call it Paco's Gulch)
If the pins are in the position (each hole has 3 locations) I'd say this course is close to 11,000 ft. Here is a map:

Spring Valley in Spring ,TX (near Houston) is the longest in the area at 10151 feet. Most of the rest in the area are under 5000 feet. I think the shortest in the area is Sea Brook, TX at a little over 2000 feet.

Some notable courses over 8000 ft.:

Stafford Lake in Novato, CA is now playing over 8000ft in the championship positions (long tees and black positions). The course map doesn't list a new D position for hole 12 and two new D and E positions for hole 14. These new positions easier push it over 8000ft.

http://bp2.blogger.com/_L9wmVMLyphU/RdV ... 7.2.15.jpg

From all longs to blacks its only a par 59 course with 4 par fours and 1 par five.

I'm working on adding new long tees to holes 7 and 17. Also planning on signs in the new year for an overlay safari 12 hole course.

cheers!
