THE 2009 AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIPS at BOWLING GREEN


April 3-5, 2009

The details:

Entry Fee: $50 all divisions (allows all players to receive same players pack)

Divisions include Advanced, Advanced Master, Advanced GM,

Intermediate, and Recreational


Mail Entry to: BGDGC, 1040 Shive Lane B-12, Bowling Green, KY 42103

Include NAME, DIVISION, and PDGA #



Schedule (check back often as we add details):

Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday nights, or Friday morning check in

(locations announced soon), players will recieve program.

Friday 2pm Tee Off at your course for Round 1

Friday Evening: Pick up players packages and meet the manufacturers

Saturday: Rounds 2 and 3

Saturday Evening: Fly Mart!

Sunday morning: Round 4

Sunday noon: Final 9

New for 2009: No players meeting, just a improved program listing all OB and pool schedules

Friday Start allows for finishing early Sunday (no putt offs in the gym)

One low entry fee and big players package for all

Expected limits on players by division:

Advanced (pools a, b, c, d): 360 players (men and women)

Advanced Age protected (pool e): 90

Intermediate (pools f, g, h): 270

Recreational (pool i, j) 180 - Note: will play two courses, twice

Wow. $50 is really cheap for that event. I knew that they were trying to get more than 1,000 players, and with entry that low, they just may do it.

I thought I heard some buzz about them wanting to break the 1,000 player mark, but it looks like they're going with quality of quantity.

It's not full yet. We're still taking mail in registration, but we're waiting for the PDGA to get off their asses and put online registration up.

Breiner is somehow the guy who does "PDGA signup" which is stupid if you ask me since the PDGA is basically promoting one online service over the others who are out there doing the same thing.

Hopefully, you've budgeted to hire a professional scorekeeper this year like Jeff LaGrassa? Last year, it cost the PDGA around $1000 in labor to unravel, correct and enter the scores for BG Ams properly.

Wasn't that covered in the $2700min you got in PDGA fees?

Also Lag would be the last guy I would hire. Just find someone else to do it.

Two days of that was volunteer time that I volunteered to help Dave out so the ratings would be correct.

BTW, Breiner is getting new customers including two series who used to use another sign up service that didn't follow thru with their promises.

Yeah and they are already upset with him too even though he did a good job on their 1st event. They even had to take day-of signups at one *gasp*. They are thinking of heading back to Titledisc because Breiner has been slow getting the event online. Also why in the world is it called PDGA signup then? How about Linx DG links or something?

He handles PDGA memberships and they aren't called Lynx memberships. The PDGA Ratings aren't called Ratings by DG by Design (my company). Unfortunately, a TD can't go directly to Breiner to get set up on PDGA Signup even though that would be more efficient. The PDGA apparently is the bottleneck in the middle sometimes such as getting BG Ams online.

Basically where does the 6% fee go to? If more than 2% goes to Breiner I would say I have a problem with that. Also if the PDGA gets it all there is a problem with that as well since there are already businesses around for that and it makes it seem like the PDGA is trying to take over that market using the "name".

Also I think the PDGA should pay the manufacturers for all the exposure they get on "PDGA Approved" discs. I know that is the how 99% of players learn of the PDGA and it seems to benefit them quite a bit to have that kind of PR.
