30th Philly Open

This will be my 3rd year playing in it and will be my first PDGA event of the year, I am looking forward to it and hopefully playing well!

I've played many of the Philly Opens in the past. While I'm not wild about the switch to the two day format, I'm always jonesing to play the temporary course at the Belmont Plateau.

Eric,

I must tell you that we will not be using the temp course this year. Since
Sedgley has used a great deal of it's political capital gaining approval for
an expansion of the existing course at Sedgley Woods and because running two
courses, as well as coordinating a bunch of field events would require an
amazing amount of staffing, we have decided to keep things closer to home.

That said, you will be playing a Sedgley Course layout that you have never
seen before, as there are now at least one dozen new pin placements (in
addition to the regular 1 that we are going to use to make a 24 hole
layout.

I hope that you'll still come and play anyway. We are going to have a great
players' party at the Ultimate field house right across the river on
Saturday night.

I have played so many different layouts at Sedgeley over the past 20 years.

Unfortunately there have been a number of holes they've made up that are just bad holes. Holes with no fairways, fairways that cross other fairways, design that leads to back ups.

My girlfriend lives about 25 min away so maybe when I'm down that way I can check out the proposed layout if I can catch someone in the know between now and the event. If it seems to be an impractical layout I may just bag the golf event and save myself for the field events.

Yeah, I'll be there. Still kinda wondering about the format though. Is it going to be golf one day, field the next? Or one round of golf each day, field events in the afternoon? 3 or 4 rounds of golf with barely any time for field events? Hoping to see some logistics posted at somepoint.

that is the whole schedule. one round of 24 "never before seen" holes each morning with field events each afternoon.

I'll do distance for sure, and maybe accuracy.

Definitely going to play some DDC, and maybe some ultimate, who knows.

I'll definitely do accuracy, distance and mta, but what on earth is speedflow? Do you think they mean trc?



Edit Okay I just googled speedflow frisbee. Apparently it's a two person team competition where you basicly play speed catch at a specific distance trying to complete the most catches in a given period of time. I bet the sidearming ultimate players should be good at this.

Yeah, some quick googling gave me this:

Speedflow. All the emphasis on continuation doesn't mean that throws and catches are "out." Speedflow means playing without tips, delays and the like, emphasizing form, accuracy and quickness. After all, jamming was fun when they did it with pie tins. Speedflow is also the name of a game that involves throwing the disc back and forth between players who stand a measured distance apart. The goal is to make the greatest number of catches in a limited period of time.

we were, and the year before that, I won adv. am - of course, it was not a PDGA event that year! I swear, the 2 events that I have won playing AM1 have both been non-PDGA events! 05 Philly open and 05 Tyler Ice Bowl. I need to step it back up and win something this year that is actually a PDGA event!

I'm not thinking so. I think they'll be completely separate from the golf. Plus, on the schedule it says "Top 5 men, top 3 women each field event in finals"

You never know though. I mean, if Jake Azato shows up, why would anyone else bother throwing distance?

that is what I mean, why bother if I know I don't stand a chance? no matter, I will be satisfied with the AM1 win!
