spent a bunch of time today experimenting with various dye colors and acetone. brighter and lighter colors worked better. just unsure of how long the "dry and setup" time is compared with dye and water.

anyway, pulled a stencil from "stencil punks" and set about dyeing another Z Buzzz. This one turned out great.



can you figure out this band?

I've decided that the cheap contact paper makes for a great transfer tape, and does a great masking off sections during the dip process.

I still want more information on "painting" with dye+water or dye+heat. Can anyone step up with a how-to?

sry man. too obilivious to figure out the band but these are some sick dyes dude. keep em comin' I've still ben having some great luck with cleap contact paper as my typilcal transfer medium. To each their own i suppose

So this was tonight's effort. Another image from Ninja Scroll, this time of Tessai, the Rock Demon. Main goal was to cut the vinyl, dip, and see if the dip would penetrate the cuts to create the rock effect seen in the source image. Results were mixed, some cuts took the dye, some didn't ... primarily because there wasn't enough space in between the vinyl.

The real finished product. Added the rock lines using an xacto blade and a mixture of black, acetone, and Rit. Went on black, never dried, decided to nuke it, turned purple-brown. Got desire effect, but not great. Then added red eye color using scarlet rit and acetone mixture. brushed on using a q-tip and a brush. Fairly happy with the effect/result.

Rechecked my dye-acetone mixes from yesterday, and everything tested out great on my white frankendisc except the black. Easy enough to dip black, but would really love to know how to paint black without the color washing off to purple-brown.

Three more I did last week, that I haven't had a chance to post...



Super happy with this one. Old-Mold Champ Beast, with blue rit+acetone painted on. Used 3-5 "coats" to get full coverage after rinsing. The blue is amazingly vibrant against the pink of the disc. And the image itself (a band logo of a lion) is sweet.



Another success. Beat-in Champ Orc. Stencil found on stencilpunks. My favorite band is The Clash, and had to do one for them. The Statue of Liberty just seemed to be fitting.



And lastly, just a simple image of the Tasmanian Devil on a Champ Leopard. No fuss no muss, just something fun for a change.
