NIN Nine Inch Nails dye using saran wrap method

Postby BennettUA » Thu Jul 30, 2009 4:20 pm

First attempt at the saran wrap method. This is a 175g Champion Beast. I chose this dye for this disc because if you've ever been to a recent NIN show, they put on an INCREDIBLE light/ theatrical display all throughout the show, and near the end put up their logo in front of the band like this:

This disc was an obvious choice because of the color being a perfect match to the logo on screen. It's my brother's and slightly used but still in great shape. With NIN using so much abstract and organic art in/on their albums, the saran wrap was calling..... I simply laid down some saran wrap in my pan, added a small amount of dye, moved it around a bit and let it sit all night, about 8 hours. I woke up, rinsed it off, and here ya go! The logo REALLY pops -- even the areas that weren't dyed black were dyed darker than before.

I'm thinking about dying the lowercase "n" on the back, would look great from both front and back.

Wow that is a really cool effect. I really like how that turned out. Do I see Abby Road under there somewhere? ;)

That is awesome.

How much saran did you use? How much dye liquid did you have?

About two feet of saran wrap -- enough to crinkle it up really well and still have enough area for the disc to be covered.

I used maybe an ounce or a little more of dye liquid. Don't need much, you don't want the disc bathing in it. I probably used too much, I'm gonna try less next time.
