Chinese caharacter resmbling basket

Postby eg37167 » Tue Aug 18, 2009 3:18 pm

Ok, this is not for a disc right now, but I have seen some Kanji (or morphed versions of same) character(s) that looked like a DG basket. Where can I find a jpg of that?
I think it would make a great avatar!

That might work, but I thought there was one that looked more authentic, or maybe I dreamed it...

I've seen a few real ones that I thought were pretty close. I'd recommend going to the library and poring through a translation book.

Oh, and Kanji is Japanese...

Spoken it's Japanese. The written language is actually called kanji.

I believe ChUck's comment was to the point that the thread title asked for a Chinese character...

So Korean writing is called Hangul, Japanese writing is Kanji, are there any other special names for the written versions of a language?

Japanese actually has two more writing systems in addition to Kanji
Hiragana - a basic alphabet-like writing system for Japanese words
Katakana - a basic alphabet-like writing system for foreign words

Just thought I'd throw that out there.
More on topic, a character that I think works well for a basket is

The top portion of the character (the part that looks like a basket) is the radical for "hole" and the character as a whole means sky, space, or void. Just a thought. :)

In Japanese the Kanji means flat, level, or even when it stands alone, though it is the first character in 平和 or "heiwa" in Japanese which means peace. The chinese character (2ping) is the same but also includes the meanings of tranquil and peaceful.
