new to dying discs

Postby Paintball1084 » Mon Sep 29, 2008 5:53 pm

My brother and I saw this section of the forum and decided to try our hand in dying discs. We read through the thread about how to do it and we started about a 3 weeks ago. here is my first ever dyed dics. its a champion aviar which was that poop brown color before i dyed it. i did a simple tribal design and it had a little run on one of the corners and you can see. I know you can see my name and number on my disc.... please done call me..

my next picture is my latest dye that i did today. I go to the University of Wisconsin Whitewater and the Warhawk is out mascot. its got black, purple, and gray in it. Its on a star beast and i think it turned out pretty good. Once i get a few more discs I am going to do a few more.

I have done other ones but they are noting special. my brother has dyed a Chicago bears disc,Dave Matthews, and Pure pwnage symbol.

My dad and I are going to get into dying and he tried to get the foil stamp off of a white STAR disc and it didn't really come off. We used acetone and tried to rub it off with a rag, but you can still see the shadow of the stamp. Are we doing this right, or is there a better way to do it?

i just put the acetone on there and dab the color off till you see the silver under the stamp then put acetone on a rag and it should just rub right off. there might be a slight shadow but its not really noticeable unless you look close at it.

some stamps come off more cleanly than others, rainbow stamps are the worst, silver are the best.

Does dying work well enough on Pro plastic? I have a KC pro aviar that I want to put something on.

From what I've heard Pro = yes, KC pro = not so much.

Just straight Pro dyes, but bleeds like crazy. Your image will only be clean for about a week and a half / two weeks.

Sounds like you're talking about the "Ghost Stamp".
You got all the foil off but you can still see the image of the stamp in the disc.
It's from the hot stamping process.
The heat & pressure causes the plastic to take the shape of the stamp.
There's nothing you can do about it short of a belt sander/ wishing you got an unstamped disc. :?
Discraft's "Ghost Stamps" are worst in my experience.

Yeah, the manufacturers really burn that stamp in there sometimes. Gateway in particular.

He could also be talking about a rainbow stamp, which leaves a piss-yellow ghost on the plastic after removal.

Actually, it seems like I'm talking about both. A ghost stamp, with the piss-yellow tint from the rainbow.

fresh and clean! I don't see any bleeds along the very outer edge of black up top- the extreme edges can be a real PITA for bleeds. Nice job!
