new to dying discs

I wouldn't recommend those, but that's just me. I found them to be too swivel-ly and squirrelly when trying to place the tip of the blade in a precise location on the stencil. Once you get it going, though, they cut very smooth curves, but I found these to be hard to control as well. Nowadays I only bust out the 360 when cutting a bonnet-shaped frame around the edge of a disc.

I recommend, for vinyl cutting at least, the xacto blade shaped like a parallelogram (#16), instead of the right-triangle shaped ones (#11). They are easier to turn while dragging through a curved cut. My stencil quality doubled once i discovered those babies, and now I buy them in packs of 100!

Chuck, don't know what's better, your avatars or your dye work...

But, I agree w/ chuck. The 360's are a PITA (for me). I will, however, have to find some #16 blades to try though...

well i guess i will skip the 360 then. i still have a few more designs sitting here, i just need discs to put them on......

If you've the spare 6 bucks or so laying around, then I'd say get one and experiment with it. The 360 certainly has uses, but is better suited for freehand curve cutting vice trying to trace a specific design.

way back when i worked in a signmaking shop, my boss recommended against swiveling knives for stencil cutting too.

hehe this may need its own sticky someday :lol:

die = cease to live
dye = color
dying = the process of death
dyeing = the process of coloring discs

always makes for fun sentences. well, i'm off to do some dying!

Alea iacta est or something like that means ale is being watched. Or was it the die is cast and somebody looks oddly colored.

I'm off to do some dying while dyeing the fumes, the fumes....
