Here is my advice to someone starting out new. Don't play constructed at all. You will quickly find out that playing this format is pretty darn expensive. I can remember dropping hundreds of dollars to try and put together the newest best deck.
Find a local shop that does drafts. This is where you get 8 people together with 3 packs a piece. Each person opens a pack and grabs one card then passes the cards to the right or left. You build the deck out of only the cards that you open. When I played this usually costs ~$15. Playing this way takes alot more skill and isn't soo much about who can afford the best cards.
Once you get the hang of this format it is alot of fun and if you start winning then it pretty much pays for itself.
I'm around an 1800ish limited player, and drafting is for me, by far, the most fun way to play magic. It puts everyone on a very even playing field. Also, if you're just starting out it's a great way to build up your collection. Lots of other people in the draft will give away their commons once the draft is over since they've likely got 20 or more copies of all the cards. Definitely try it out if you've never done it before. It WILL make you a better player.
And Frosty like i said if you want some alara block commons/uncommons just pay for the shipping and ill give em to ya. I so much extra stuff i dont need id rather see someone using them rather than just sitting in a closet
