slight change in the lineup - got rid of the drone and put a z wasp in the bag, it definitely fits with what I wanted for a compliment to my comets.

distance drivers
171 Z Surge (bomb girl dye - thanks Booter!)
172 Z Surge

overstable
169 Z Predator (acts more like a worn X Pred)
173 Z Predator (workhorse overstable)
171 Z Predator (flat top, acts like a spirit, spike hyzers/skips, etc)

fairway
172 Goldline Striker (primary control driver)
173 Opto Striker (worn, works lots of lines)
171 Opto Striker (hyzerflips and long turnovers)
172 Champ Leopard (midrange distance on a driver line, short turnovers / rolling driver)

midranges
176 X Comet (really beat, finesse upshots and rollers)
177 X Comet (newish, low power straight shots)
174 Z Comet (worn, jack of all trades midrange)
178 Sparkle Z Comet (slow hyzer midrange)
175 Z Wasp (when I don't want to flip a comet into a headwind - and some midrange drives)

putters
173 CryZtal Challenger (hyzer approaches, driving putter)
174 D Challenger (primary putter)
174 D Challenger (backup putter)
169 D Challenger (long putts/approaches, turnover drives)

I'm going to switch my bag over to this after the ass stomping you handed me out at Albert Oakland

Possible change in the lineup - Stalker competing for the fairway driver slot with the striker.

distance drivers
171 Z Surge
172 Z Surge

overstable
170 Z Predator (new - acts more like a new X Pred)
173 Z Predator (workhorse overstable)
171 Z Predator (flat top, acts like a spirit, spike hyzers/skips, etc)

fairway
172 Goldline Striker (primary control driver)
175 Z Stalker (fairway driver)
171 Opto Striker (hyzerflips and long turnovers)
172 Champ Leopard (midrange distance on a driver line, short turnovers / rolling driver)

midranges
177 X Comet (beat, finesse upshots and rollers)
175 Z Comet (flat top, acts like a slightly worn X Comet)
174 Z Comet (worn, jack of all trades midrange)
178 Sparkle Z Comet (slow hyzer midrange)
175 Z Wasp (when I don't want to flip a comet into a headwind - and some midrange drives)

putters
173 CryZtal Challenger (hyzer approaches, driving putter)
174 D Challenger (primary putter)
174 D Challenger (backup putter)
167 D Challenger (long putts/approaches, turnover drives)

The Stalker only comes in Z AFAIK. Why not switch to Teechikns or some other fairway driver that's available in at least 3 different plastics. The only "problem" I see with your bag, is if it gets cold and wet, you don't have too many discs in grippy plastic. Have you though of adding D Cyclones? I use the 150 class RDGA Flathead Cyclone as a cold/wet weather replacement for my Leopard. Even the DX Leopards don't have the grip of the tacky runs of Discraft D plastic.

I switched away from TBirds last fall in favor of strikers - a disc that I feel is more workable on more lines - the stalker is of the same breadth. TBirds are good at one thing really, going straight. I threw them almost exclusively for the first 4 years I played, but my game has developed where I feel better with a more workable disc in that slot.

I normally don't have a problem gripping high end plastic in the cold/wet. I have found that keeping my hands dry/warm is more important than having DX/Pro plastic in the bag for specific conditions.

edit: The experiment with strikers as distance drivers didn't last long. Surges won't be supplanted as distance drivers in my bag. Strikers are a in-between that isn't really needed - my Stalkers are good until I reach for a surge, and not different enough from stalkers to warrant fairway driver work also.

Distance Drivers
171 Z Surge - Bomb Girl Dye
172 Z Surge

Overstable
171 Z Predator (flat top)
173 Z Predator (workhorse)
174 Z Predator (domey)

Control
175 Z Stalker
170 Cryztal Stalker
172 Champ Leopard (rollers, controlled turns until I get a stalker beat in)

Midranges
177 X Comet (beat)
170 Z Comet (new, upshots)
174 Z Comet (straight, does everything well)
177 Z Comet (very stable)
175 Z Wasp (slightly overstable)

Putters
174 D Challenger (main putter)
174 D Challenger (backup putter)
167 D Challenger (long putts / kneeling putts)
174 Cryztal Challenger (approaches / driving)

Still sitting on 7 molds for everything.

Working with a small bag for a while.

Distance:
172 Z Surge
(probably will audition a QOLF here or something like it)

Overstable:
171 Z Predator (flat top)
173 Z Predator (beat, still beefy)
174 Z Predator (domey)

Control:
170 Cryztal Stalker
175 Z Stalker
172 Leopard

Midrange:
177 X Comet (beat)
174 Z Comet (stable)
177 Z Comet (very stable)

Putters:
174 Cryztal Challenger
174 D Challenger

Tweaked the small bag just a bit. This is in a camo fade crunch bag, I like it enough that I'm definitely going to have to invest in a spider monkey or squirrel monkey in the near future.

Distance:
172 Z Surge
(probably will audition a QOLF here or something like it)

Overstable:
171 Z Predator (flat top)
173 Z Predator (beat, still beefy)
174 Z Predator (domey)

Control:
170 Cryztal Stalker
175 Z Stalker

Midrange:
177 X Comet (beat)
174 Z Comet (stable)
177 Z Comet (very stable)
175 Z Wasp (overstable mid)

Putters:
174 Cryztal Challenger
174 D Challenger

Well, the time for experimenting with a fairway driver is over. Strikers were ok, but inconsistent in what flight characteristics I was getting out of different discs and plastics. The stalker is nice and straight, and pretty controllable - but the teebird does everything a stalker can do but is a better disc, and longer - so back to the old standby. Never should have taken it out of the bag after always having one for the first 4 years I played!
(big bag discs in italics)

Distance drivers
172 Z Surge
171 Z Surge

Overstable
171 Z Predator (flat top)
173 Z Predator (workhorse)
174 Z Predator (domey, much less overstable)

Fairway drivers
172 Champ Teebird
170 Champ Teebird
175 DX Teebird
170 Champ Leopard

Midranges
175 Z Wasp
177 X Comet (beat, flippy)
170 Z Comet (touch approaches)
174 Z Comet (beat to straight)
177 Z Comet (most stable)

Putters
174 D Challenger (main putter)
174 Cryztal Challenger (drives, approaches)
174 D Challenger (backup putter)

This is what I'll be carrying in my fade crunch bag this weekend at Topeka, the Capital City Classic.

Distance
172 Z Surge

Overstable
171 Z Pred
173 Z Pred
169 Z Pred

Control
172 Champ Teebird
175 DX Teebird
170 Champ Leopard

Midrange
175 Z Wasp
177 Z Comet
174 Z Comet
177 X Comet

Putters
174 D Challenger
174 Cryztal Challenger

Pretty familiar setup. I've been working with this basic, smaller lineup a lot lately and I'm liking it. Of course, I'll have my carolina and backups just in case I feel like carrying the bigger bag :P

Just curious about the Comets ... I really like the Meteor / Buzzz / Wasp trifecta, and I'd like to know how you came to be a Comet thrower. I found that the Z's felt a little too much like lids, and admittedly I haven't thrown any Xs. Do they really combine the best of the Meteor and Buzzz?

Well, I don't think I'd be the best to answer that, since my experiences with the meteor and buzzz are limited to throwing other peoples discs...

As for how I became a Comet thrower, I picked up a couple back when the new Z's came out as a learning tool, and they just really caught on from there since I picked up the feel for throwing them really quickly. Once I learned how to manipulate it, most other midranges became too power oriented for what I was looking for - which obviously was the comet :) The meteor and buzzz are quite a bit faster, but I actually find the comet to be more controllable on a wider variety of lines than both of those discs.

Additional reworking...my setup is basically come full circle back to what I was throwing later in the summer of 09.

Distance
172 Z Surge

Overstable
171 Z Pred - flat top
173 Z Pred
169 Z Pred - really beat

control
173 11x KC Pro Teebird
172 12x Champ Teebird
170 Champ Leopard

Midrange
174 Star San Marino Roc
177 DX Rancho Roc
174 Z Comet

Putters
174 D Challenger (x2)
174 Cryztal Challenger

I'm fairly certain I was forcing too hard to make comets my only midrange...I could make all the shots with them in most conditions, but it's just easier to have a slightly more overstable midrange for primary use, and the comet for all my touch shots/turnovers/etc. That was what I had the most success with in the past, and now I'm getting back to that philosophy.

We'll see how long this lasts, it's getting about that time in the season where I have to get the bag locked in again.
