After a long, long debate this spring, I've taken the Ions out for putting. Maybe I'll replace them with a firmer version down the road, but the stiff Wizards are just what I'm used to. I also started messing around with an Axis. So far it's more stable than I was expecting, making it more difficult to play Rosedale (a course with tons of left to right shots), but it took me time to figure out the Ion and I assume this one will be the same.

Nope, I have not. In fact, I bought a Vector last night (way more usable than the 1st run I threw a while back), and a lighter Axis, hoping it would be easier to throw on turnover lines without max power.

It seems once you start tinkering with something, it gets addictive.

I put a beat up Roc back into my bag for hyzer flip up shots thrown from a deep hyzer. I don't know if I'll stick with it as it doesn't get thrown much, but it's something that gives me some comfort on a day where the Axis isn't working. I also took out the C FD, opting for my original test run S FD because it seems to turn out of a flip slower without tumping over. Also in the bag is one of my flatter DGR S PDs, which seem to have less resistance to fight out of a turn. S PD2 is out (just too stable), and my test run C PD2 is back in.

What's changed? Well, I got 5 G9i wizards in the mail yesterday in the 168-170 range I like for putting, and these things feel awesome! You know that deep chain hit sounds you get from 10x Aviars? Same sound. I also gave up on the Axis. While great for distance, and great for straight shots, I never really got to a point where I could work it well at a variety of distances. So the Rocs are going back in the bag. If MVP makes a workable midrange somewhere in the near future, it could make it's way back in, but not now.

I've been throwing more and more shots with my PDs lately. I don't think the courses in KC have been set that short, but for most holes under 400' I've been attacking with the PD. I'm also looking for another overstable distance driver. The PD2 hasn't gotten much action, and perhaps I can find something that fits in my hand better.

Also, some sort of Wraith style disc may be finding it's way to my bag soon. We'll see about that though.

Just a heads up, the new runs of the "G9i" chew up pretty quickly. I've got a couple of white one's that I was going to use for putting duties...but the durability just isn't there. But they do feel great in hand.

most good gateway putters I've used in the past get beat up really quickly at first, then didn't seem to change after that initial wear in phase almost at all. So you're saying these g9i don't have that same quality? Not that I'm using gateway putters (actually breaking in a couple of sweet new challengers) but a lot of people around here do and I'm sure they'd like to know before they invest too much in them thinking they are like the old g9i.

It's not a good wear in. They seem to chunk up really easily, rather than just wear in like the old soft runs of a few years back. The plastic is pretty brittle. I have a handful of new runs of wizards coming in the mail hopefully later this week. I am hoping they will fit the bill in terms of durability. As for the few that I currently have, they have been limited to practice putters in the backyard because of the lack in durability. I am afraid to take them out on the course for fear they will either break in half or get chunked up worse than they already are.

So I left my Wizard at home last night, and I said "crap, I need a putter." So I stopped by DD on the way to Rosedale, and picked up a great 12x 168g KC Aviar. This is the first time I've had one of these in my bag in nearly 4 years. It was money all night for putting. I really haven't picked up a putter and been that on with it in a long time. I also hit the basket on a short wooded hole off the tee. It was amazed at how slow and glidey they are. I guess I've been throwing Wizards for so long I though putters were supposed to be that fast. Go figure.

Anyway, we'll see how it goes. I need to get a couple more.
