Tree Catch Drill

Postby Bradley Walker » Thu Jul 15, 2010 9:27 am

... do really want to get better? Here's a drill for you...

You need two people but you can play by yourself with a stack of discs...

1. Stand 120' apart.
2. Place a medium sized tree between you and your catch partner.
3. Now play catch going around the tree...

Rules:

1. Use a putter to start.
2. No stall hysers. The hyser must curve around the tree.

Once you do this for a few moths switch to Roc or Buzz and move out to 250 feet.... Then to fairway, driver, then a fast driver.

And get a bigger tree :!:

This is exactly what I do with the practice basket. Stack of putters or mids; throw a set BH alternating each throw hyzer then anhyzer; next set are all FH alternating Hz/Ahz. Quickly teaches ranging and disc angles regardless of stability. Confidently flicking a new Rhyno anhzyer around obstacles is a very handy card to have in your deck.

Me and a friend used to do it when practicing ultimate. It worked wonders in throwing smoothly and with accuracy. I had never thought of using it with discs though.

Good drill, Brad. Next time I practice I'll have to do that.
