Cant throw anhyzers anymore

Postby JHBlader86 » Mon Sep 13, 2010 12:15 am

So like the title says I just cant throw anny's correctly anymore. I either throw everything nose up, or I cant get the height on the disc. I dont have video, but any steps I can do to try to fix this??

Start the easy way. Throw an understable disc dead nuts flat and let the disc do the work. Don't worry about the exact line or height or how much glide results, just throw it flat and get it to turn. Whatever degree of turn most naturally occurs, be satisfied with that. Then repeat it, time and again. Do that until you have regained your touch and confidence. From that start you have a base. Work from there.

Reach down to butt height at the reach back and get the disc moving at head height or higher for added height. Leaning back at the waist tilts the disc to anny too. In addition to using an understable disc try using a slow one so that you'll certainly exceed the cruise speed and for a long time so that the disc won't flex out. For starters later on a flex shot is a very valuable tool.
Flat shots need running on the center line of the tee and planting each step on the center line. Anhyzer needs running from rear right to front left with the plant step hitting the ground to the left of the line you're running on. Hyzer is the mirror of that.

Throwing annys is one of my favorite things to practice. I'm not really sure how to explain it (it's a lot easier to show) but it's a combination of three things, for me.

1) Grip
2) Wrist
3) Should

The grip really depends on how far I'm throwing it... if it's off the tee I'll use the "grip-it to rip-it" grip with my wrist all the way forward (so the disc lines up with my forearm) and when I snap my follow through leaves my hand palm out/up and it's aimed with my shoulder forward.

If I'm within 150' (approaching around a tree) I'll grip it with the disc higher into my thumb and throw it with a more relaxed wrist and use my wrist at the snap to aim it with my shoulder in like I'm throwing a normal back hand.

Grip-it to rip-it;

and a video of Mark Ellis (surprised he didn't post it himself) throwing annies (what I learned on... he also has an awesome putt confidence video that got me putting around 85% out to 32 feet in three weeks!)

Lizard Lawyers Limited is the whimsical, self-imposed nickname for my law firm.

For 25 years I played for a softball team called the Lizards. After college many of the Lizards went on to become lawyers, including the founding members of my law firm. So there are about a dozen lizard lawyers. Since the rest do not play disc golf competitively, you probably have never heard of them.

Say it's not so Mr. Ellis! I always looked at you like a neat uncle or big brother who always had something cool, disc golf related, to show me.
