How do you deal with the wind?

Lately, I have played at several tournaments with extreme wind. My Champion Firebird has been a huge help. I even found myself using it for upshots, and thats when I started thinking that there had to be a better way.

Now I am interested to find out what the posters on this board do to deal with extreme wind conditions. Do you throw upside down drivers as putters? Is there a disc that bails you out? Is there a trick you find helpful?

when i play with extreme wind i just make sure im keeping the nose down...thats my only tip

i generally default to steep hyzer angle approaches with nearly all discs, but often both my putters and something mega overstable (i use a max weight z pred).

as for putting into the wind, a stable putter (e.g. kc aviar, d challenger, s wizard, etc.) will be relatively unaffected. i've never had wind be so bad (> 50 MPH) i had to switch to a roc for putting, but that's what the next step would be.

If you have to throw a 150' approach in a 40 mph head wind what disc do you use? What do you use for the same shot with a tail wind? This example assumes that there is an open route to the basket for any chosen line.

150' = easy low power 1-step knife hyzer w/ a z predator.

tail wind... just something normal like a putter but about 5' higher
although will throw the knife line if my game is off

i suggest going out and practicing during huge wind. doesn't have to be on the course. grab a stack of everything and see how to throw it into the wind on varying lengths.

I agree w/ Blake (it would be really hard to disagree with him on anything disc, he really knows his stuff). Me personally other than putting (I have days I will go to the course and spend twice as much time on the practice basket than on the course) my game improves 80% off the course and 20% on . Anything that has to do with tecnique, accuaracy, range speed and compensating for obstacles I try to learn off the course. The only thing I really try to work on on the course in practice type rounds, is how to play smart, learning when to lay up, when to go for it, and other mental aspects of the game.

I'm no expert, but we get a lot of wind in Colorado. I always go to my 173 Pro Firebird. It works for me. Keep it low, and it gets the job done.
Putting I use a Champ Rhyno Max Weight.
