HW accelerates the disc? I would think if you putt at 5mph into 20 mph hw would result in a putt at 15 mps. My hillbilly butt has it backwards.....

It does not speed up the discs forward momentum, but causes the disc to need the spin for a throw at the combined speed. This is why you see discs thrown into a headwind become flippy and why a disc thrown with a tail wind, like a putter with very low spin can go 300+ feet in a straight line.
Example: a 5 MPH putt into a 15 MPH headwind needs the spin of a 20 MPH throw.
