Help with snap

Postby alphafrolfer » Wed Jun 28, 2006 1:52 am

I have been playing disc golf for a couple years now and seem to be stuck at 300-330 ft. I have recently realized that my main problem is that all of my throws have almost no snap on them.

Any suggestions/practice that could help me attempt to get some snap in my throws?

Thanks and if i need to include more details just lemme know.

You're probably strongarming your drives. I've been throwing 250-275 for nearly 4 years. Just the other day I had a distance breakthrough. I realized that I was keeping the muscles in my arm and shoulder far, far too tense. After reading This this intructional article, I tried something. I power gripped my driver, putting pressure with only my fingers, while the rest of my arm was completly limp. I then spun my hips and rotated my body. The rotational speed turned my arm into a sling. The disc ripped from my hand and I felt it, SNAP!

Anyways, I hope my story can help you find some snap. Maybe some of the other members can give you some more technical advice.

terrence:

what you are describing is whip, and most players that aren't consistently breaking 350' don't have it.

snap however, is the result of a very conscious action immediately before and through the rip.

there are a few articles on the main site covering this.

keep the arm relaxed and let the hips do the work.
