Winter (snow) footwear

I started playing late last winter and only had to play my first round in boots. The rest of the time I've been playing in running shoes and lately in Keen sandals (love them).

I'm probably going to be playing a bit this winter and I'm wondering what folks in the midwest (I'm in MN) are wearing? A few of my friends that play have some sort of hiking boot that's apparently waterproof/resistant but I don't remember what they were.

I'm thinking maybe something like these (since I like my other Keen's):

Not from the midwest, but we play in snow here sometimes, and lots of wet. I usually just wear W/B trail runners with ankle gaiters in the snow. I've also used my mountain boots, but don't often need to. For heavy snowfall, MSR snowshoes work great. They have a smaller footprint than a lot of trad snowshoes, so you can do a stand and deliver throw pretty easily, and they have really good grip on slippery snow.

I like the look of those...wouldn't mind trying out a pair. The sole doesn't look like it would do much for you though...looks pretty smooth. How do they hook up in the slippery stuff? I'm curious how they'd be on wet/icy/muddy roots/rocks?

Any shoe can be transformed to more grippy by Yaktrax Pro or one of the bladed things from Kahtoola.

the sole is really the only thing i have noticed i dont like. the only time i have noticed any slippage, is walkiing uphill in grass with mud.

I bought a $28 pair of hikers from Wal-Mart that work just fine. If you don't want to have to pay $80+ for waterproof shoes, these are a good alternative (they are waterproof and fairly comfortable... and cheap )

Which kind did you get? How long have you had them? How have they held up? Today I picked up a pair of the Ozark Trail Peyton and wondered what you thought of them.

I shall stop by my local Walmart and see what they've got. I think waterproof is probably the most important thing (other than comfort). I plan on getting nice warm socks.

I'm wondering which kind you got too.

I still have a little bit of time but it's getting dangerously close to winter around here.

At an icebowl a few years ago, there was hard pack snow with ice everywhere (tees, fairway, etc...). A local shredded everyone using these yak trax, nobody else could get any traction. I'd be afraid to hurt my knee.
