You could probably make the plastic more brittle by freezing and warming over and over again, but a normal kitchen freezer may not get cold enough to effect the plastic. I should toss some old DX disc on my roof for the rest of the winter and see what happens by spring time.

I know discs are more likely to break in the cold but we played today, 28 degrees (felt like 16 w/ wind chill)
Hit some trees pretty good but didn't break any : ) (mostly DX in the bag)

upside down w/ alittle water in it, they get hot.

Some liquid nitrogen would make a disc shatter into peices. I got to dip a bananna in liquid nitrogen before. Then got to shatter it like glass, it was fun.

It was an industrial size freezer. but good point, freeze a disc and drop it into boiling water a few times.

Last year at the Pueblo, CO Icebowl, a DX Raven was thrown, and it hit a tree and shattered into many pieces. the temp was -3 without wind chill.

Funny thing is he got to play from the largest piece which was a really good approach shot. Unfortunately he lost one of his favorite discs.

They may have improved their plastic some by now, but I've heard that Lightning discs will shatter when its below freezing out. Seeing that would be the only reason I'd want to throw one again. :D

I put all my discs in the freezer when I first get them. Freezes the adhesive so all the stinking stickers and price tags come off without acetone.

When life gives you lemons, stick them in the freezer for a few hours, then throw them back, 'cause they're like rocks, man.

Shattering discs used to be commonplace about 20 years ago. I know people who broke 3 discs within a 45 minute time period playing wooded courses.

I think the most pieces I saw a disc break into on a single throw was 5 . It was a cyclone which surprised me since they seemed far more flexible and durable than the old style san marino rocs and XDs.

To purposely get a disc to shatter on impact I imagine your best bet would be to coat it with liquid nitrogen and then throw it (with protective gloves) against a stone wall.
