Ambidextrous throwers?

Postby cmrichar » Wed Jan 24, 2007 4:29 pm

Pres 10 and I were talking and thought about how much of an advantage a person would have if they could throw RHBH and LHBH. I was just curious if you can do this or know someone that can. Also if it gives them an advantage.

I cannot, but I was thinking how good it would be, I'm going to practice, It can't be that hard. I taught myself how to use my mouse left handed after I got carpel tunnel

Actually that is what I am doing at the moment. I first learned how to throw side arm. Now I am in the middle of the process of throwing backhand. Sidearm I throw much more consistantly, while my backhand can get shaky.

But to answer your question it would seem if you could throw backhand both ways it would be best, because side arm you usually won't get the consistancy and distance. At least not for most ppl.

What would be best would be to be able to throw BH and FH with both arms. Maybe off the teepad throwing BH with both arms would be ideal, but getting stuck in trouble behind a bush...well, the more options the better. Don't know how many times I've been stuck behind something with a look at the basket, wishing that my left hand was more than just decoration.

Chris Sprague can throw with either hand, backhand, sidearm, and overhand.

It really does have to be a tremendous advantage.

Some holes are suited better for a righty sidearms than a righty anhyzer, and vice versa. And some holes are suited better for a lefty hyzer than either of the above.

I know of a guy who can do this, and it is a tremendous advantage like bigs says.
Steel City Shootout last year at the Pueblo course final 9 Hole #5 wicked hard shot down the gut everyone was RHBH throwers, 3 of the 4 guys threw a nice soft shot down the middle jsut looking for a par on the hole. Then the guy who could throw both ways, gets up there left handed and the gallery was liek huh?? and he launched it all the way down the left side which was completely clear of trees (outofbounds but clear) parked it and got an easy birdie, where everyone else struggled to get a 3 and one actually got a 4.

I would love to be able to throw rhbh and lhbh

Seems like a weird combo...I'm sure it can come in handy in certain situations, but that's basically the same flight path. :?

Me Too. So does Sprague.

What hand do you throw overhand shots with scooter? I'm naturally a lefty, and throw the overhand with the left.

I write, eat, and use cutlery with my left hand, but throw power shots with RHBH. If I get in a really tight spot in the rough, I can throw out with my left hand, but the disc doesn't go very far. I should practice a little with my left this winter.

Im with ya Scooter. Im lefty for everything im life except throwing a disc backhand. The lefty flick does come out when im stuck behind a tree or anhyzer upshots like you said. I also throw all tomahawks and forehand rollers with my left hand. What about you?
