Star Shark

Postby Weebl » Mon Aug 14, 2006 11:38 pm

A friend of mine, Merle Witvoet came back from the Pro Worlds with the Star Shark, first run DX Skeeter, and a ESP driver from Discraft (something with a minor GT). Well he let me try out the Shark, which is 180g, and this thing is stable as hell. Couldn't turn this thing over in a headwind (10-15mph) and it's stability was comparable to a KC Roc, but less 'bite'. It faded just as early but it didn't progress like a KC Roc, it just kinda held that hyzer angle till ground was contacted. The only downside is it had a very sharp bottom like an Avenger, but worse.

I didn't throw the skeeter, it looked like a Roc mated with an Aero.

The Star Shark is also slightly domey, like a 11x KC Roc, it does have a flat spot on the top center, covering around half the discs diameter so it domes up fairly steeply but plateaus.

Rocs. I don't like Star plastic, and my preferance is true stable with multiple copies is different stages of wear.

I would like to get a white one and dye the whole top as a shark head like an old fighter plane. but I will stick with my rocs for throwing.

These, I am predicting, will be an extremely popular disc. They fly well, and fill the role of Stable/overstable midrange, at least in 180g. They have a lot of glide as well.

Sharpness

Postby all_thumbs » Wed Aug 16, 2006 7:07 am

Has anyone tried to burnish/sand/polish off the mold flashing that makes these sharp edged? I read somewhere (edit: first post in the thread, doh) that they were sharp, and I remember my champ Shark being sharp like that before I sold it. Dave D mentioned that burnishing off the flashing on the Star SL makes it fly like a 'true SL'. Wonder if the Star Shark will fade less if this is done, or turn over.

Not that they are available anymore, but I'd like to try one when/if they go regular production.

I'll try it out, I'm going to use low, tight carpet to take off it.

Anyone know of retailer or ebay seller with these right now? I decided I'd really like to try it out, and Discgolf Values is sold out.

innova is undecided as to whether or not to make the star shark cfr or not...

imo, it shouldn't have been made in the first place and they should just make a standard production star roc.
