Firebird Drama

Postby uNicedmeMan » Mon Oct 05, 2009 3:32 pm

So I kinda wanna try out a firebird but I'm afraid all of the "good" ones have been taken and cost $20+. Has the issue with the 12x firebirds that made everyone hate them been hashed out? Can you buy a "good" firebird from the store?? What does "good" firebird mean anyway?

If you want the firebird flight (fading right out of your hand), get a flat, max weight one.

The xxx is a lot closer to a pred than a fb. The two xxx I've tossed were flat. Thomas said the domeyy ones were were more overstable.

Most people around here like CE, old proline and 11x. I'll bet a nice flat 12x would be fine.

11x are on a few trade lists around here...

flat firebird = greatest meathook ever
domey firebird = not so great but still serious meathook

The current run (and the previous runs as far as I can tell) Star Firebirds are flat as a plate, and hold on to their crazy overstability for quite a while. 11x champs are the creme de la creme imo but a flat 12x is solid too.

So, I recomend an 11x champ if you can find one to trade for/purchase (for a reasonable price) and then a nice Star if you can't. Flat 12x's are out there, but there are far more domey 12x than flat. If you can pull through a decent sized stack of 'em you may find one
This is unbelievable disc that acts like space ship. -lovetodg-

I won a 173g DX Firebird a couple weeks ago and it's basically a less glidy PD... quite disappointing. Long live the Z Predator!

if you don't want to pay for the 11x, just get a flat stiff reg. production Star. They are better than the 12x. (Having said that, I throw 12x!)

Some of the recent runs of Champion are less domey than previous runs of 12x.

Try a DX one. I throw all three plastics in FB's and the DX breaks into a straight headwind disc.
The FB mold seems to work very well with DX as far as durability goes.

THere are a few flatter 12xs out there, but you'll have to pick & chose. The flat stars are nice & they break in decent, I just like the 11xs better.

From my experience, if you can find tourney stamped Firebirds they're usually super flat (Two tourneys had them & they were both 11x flat).

Anything wrong with the 12x pros?
