DGA Elite Shield Bag Review

Postby BLURR » Wed Oct 12, 2011 8:13 pm

I wanted to post up a few pic's of the new DGA Shield Bag for everybody to see. Don't be mislead by the first picture. It can fit an amazing amount of plastic given its rather small looking size(I have 18 disc's in it, but was able to get 20 in there comfortably without using the zippered side pouch).

Pro's:
- Very lightweight
- So far it seems fairly well constructed
- 4 footers on the bottom of the bag to keep it up off the ground
- Very nice padding on the part that rests against your back(See image 4)
- Can fit quite a few disc's in it for its small stature(See image 5)
- Nice insulated water bottle holder(See image 3)
- Mini/Scorecard/Pen Slot(See image 2)
- Semi-hard shell case(See image 3, next to the water bottle)
- CHEAP...paid $49 shipped for this bag

Con's
- Only one zipper pouch(The end where the mini/score card/pen slot area is)

Yes. GGGT was the cheapest around. I don't know if they still have the black one's on sale(That's how I got mine so cheap).

When the bag is in use, what do you do with the zippered cover? The most annoying part of my Fade Tournament bag is how you have to roll the cover. It gets in the way when I take discs in and out.

Sooooo.... it's a Gorilla Boy Chimp, but $10 less, no frame, no mini pocket, no mesh pocket, and made overseas? Or an Innova Deluxe but $10 more?

Well it looks a heck of a lot better than the Innova bag, and you don't have to wait 2 months to get one like the Gorilla Boy bag. Gorilla boy bags no longer ship with a strap, so if you don't already have one it may cost even more than the initial $10.

No Frame? PVC is cheap enough if you feel like you need a frame. I like the semi hard case too, nice safe place to keep your Iphone. Looks like a solid bag, I'll have to check one out.

The zippered flap folds down nicely inside the bag...kind of like most people do with their revo bags. I did forget to mention that there is a zippered pocket on the underside of the flap as well, kind of like on my Fade Crunch bag in the one pic.

As for the Gorilla boy comparison, I would say that it is comparable to the chimp, but lighter weight. It does have a mini pocket, but you are correct, no mesh pocket. And the main reason I didn't go with the GB Chimp, was because of the wait time. I was bagless at the time and the DGA bag seemed like a decent shot at the time.

I can fit two challengers or kc aviars or wizards in the front putter pocket if I wanted to, but I usually just put my main putter in the front pouch as I only carry one putter to putt with. The other putters are in with the rest as they are my driving putters.

I will keep you posted on the durability. I figure for less than $50, if it lasts me a season or two, I would be happy...considering I can burn through a revo in about 4 years, I can buy two of these and still come out money ahead.

One of the DGA guys at the Coyote Classic told me this weekend that they are hoping to make the shell pocket even harder than it is now. I thought it was a nice bag especially for the price. The padding on the back was very thick. Probably the best at that price point if you don't want to wait 3 months.

I bought one of these shortly after reading this review. I am very impressed with the design. Just like the photos above, side by side with my Crunch box it looks to be the same size. In the main compartment it holds up to 19 discs as easily as 16 discs. It is as light as my Crunch box too. It's is a good size.

One thing that has not been been mentioned is that the bottom is made from a durable rubber like material. So far the bag is holding up and I really don't have any complaints yet.
