Anybody brewing today?

Weds night I bottled my APA. last night I racked my Vanilla Coffee Porter into the secondary. I racked it on top of 4 oz pure vanilla extract and coffee that I cold brewed the night before. Should be ready to bottle in a couple weeks unless I have my keezer setup by then.

Today I think I will be brewing a Cream Ale, nice summertime session beer. I think I might add 5# of strawberry to this one when I rack it to the secondary so it will end up being a Strawberry Cream Ale

That vanilla cofffee porter sounds absolutely DELICIOUS!!!

I have high hopes for it. It wil be the first brew that I added things o that were not part of the original recipe.

I'm hoping to start brewing soon. I'm lined up to get a good bonus here in a couple weeks and I might get me a set up then.

Anyone with the know how, is a trapist ale to tall of an order for a first brew?

doesn't seem to bad to me. From what I have read is browns,porters and stouts are the most forgiving to new brewers.

Do you intend to start brewing Extract to start or are you going right into All Grain?

I would go hear http://www.homebrewtalk.com/ and do some research and maybe find a clone recipe.

Probably start with an extract. I'm excited. I just figured out I may be getting almost $300 more than originally planned, so the wifey might be extra cool with it.

I think I would pass on that one. You can buy a starter kit and get just as much if not more and it will be new stuff for the same price.

Thanks, that's probably what I'll do at this point as the guy selling the previous kit mentioned already sold it to someone else... I may just keep checking craigslist for a nice deal.

I just saw this thread, its sweet. I got a brew kit last summer and have made a few brews with it, A basic porter and bitter. They turned out ok, they bitter had a light fruity flavor that I think may have happened because the yeast did not get enough O2? thats what I ve read anyway.
I have been using extracts and adding malts in a cheese cloth for extra flavor. My brews haven't been as good as I'd like them to be, not enough umph and carbonation. I gotta keep practicing.

The fruit taste, was it kinda like a banana taste? What temp was your fermentation at? If it was a high temp then that might been the cause of the fruit flavor.

As far as carbonation. What are you using to carb with? Corn Sugar? What is your process?

Another batch down. I brewed up a Cream Ale on saturday night. Nice, light beer good for summertime. I think I might add some 5lbs of strawberry to it once I put it in the secondary and make it a Strawberry Cream Ale.
