The Atoms are on the lower end of my price range. They're just under $300 a pair. I'm still a bit wishy washy on the receiver; I'm not sure I'll ever use a 7.2 configuration. Onkyo makes a nice 5.1 receiver too.
I want to build my system piece by piece to see if I want to invest any more. A nice 2.1 system will suit me just fine for now, and I'm looking at the lower end of these manufacturer's product lines. However, I do want to invest in something that's going to last me 10 or so years, and I am a bit of an audiophile (more like becoming one again). So buying quality equipment is an expense I can justify. I just need to keep it in reason.
