I accidentally saw the 2D version, can't wait to go see it in 3D! Sure the plot was a little formulaic, but overall it was a great movie. Two thumbs up from Mr. Plow :)

I liked the movie a lot, but the last 30 minutes, which containted most of the action and fighting, seemed like a formality by the time they got to it. You had a pretty good idea of what was going to happen but they had to have the big battle scene so the movie ended up a half hour longer than it needed to be. 2 hours and 40 minutes is a long time to watch a predictable movie just because the effects are good.

I got the feeling that even with the long running time, there was a lot that they had to cut out to make it that "short." For instance, I think there was a lot more to the "red dragon thing" scene, that they had to leave out for the sake of the audience's butts going numb. I'm betting that the DVD version is going to include a lot more footage, including some freaky alien tentacle tail sex.

Saw it last night, same thing. Sure, it wasn't an achievement in character development, dialog, plot twists or anything like that, but the structure was solid and those aren't the kinds of things I'm looking for from a full-price theater experience these days. I can watch The Wire at home. I wanna be blown away, and this totally did it. I thought it was a pretty stunning cinematic experience.

Also: dug that they went with the Buddy Holly model for the glasses.

I think the point of it is that it's the best CGI ever made, which is kind of JC's main style. And on that point, total total score. I mean wtf else do you go to a JC movie to enjoy? I loved it.

But also, what a kick in the balls when he ends it with the sentimental siren ballad bullshit. I had just thought "so cool, and no Celine Dion bullsh-" BOOM huge female vocal.

CGI and 3D were amazing
plus I saw it at Alamo Drafthouse = beer and pizza during movie 8)
