Yeah the no multitasking kills it for any sense of usefulness...

There's just no point if you can't listen to tunes or take a call while you browse the web.

Utter waste of money.

It's really a shame, too...the A4 CPU is just a modified ARM, which is more than capable of multitasking...

The few multitask things the iPhone supports is phone and iPod functionality. I can listen to music while I surf the net, and I can be on a call while I do something else.

yeah, the no Flash is almost a deal killer for me now. I am super disappointed by this. Apple fighting the world again... They haven't learned from their mistakes clearly.

I think Flash Mobile has been in development already for a while

anyway .. Greasy netbook

I bet it'll be a rad piece of gear by gen 3, or with jailbroken apps/OS

i'd be far more interested in a functional mac tablet, with multitouch AND pressure-pen, running an enhanced OSX. Really not interested in this one

No flash - that's on Adobe

No backgrounding - How else are you gonna claim 10hrs. of battery life

I'm an Apple fanboy and Even I will admit this thing is a giant pile of crap. Anyone that says this thing is in any way innovative is clearly a few crayons short of an eight pack. It's a glorified iPod Touch so Apple can get the hand into the 5-6 billion dollar eBook market. To think I was excited about this thing. I thought maybe it would run a full version of OSX. Anyone who has an iPhone that buys this is an idiot. My feeling is that they will sell millions and millions of them but it won't catch on like Apple wants it to. Who really wants to read a ebook thats not on epaper. My eyes hurt already.

know what this reminds me of?

Image
i own one of these.. got it super cheap after discontinuation.

the eMate 300 ... ran the Newton OS (the apple PDA), used a stylus touchscreen, handwriting recognition, auto-rotating screen layout, infrared (wireless networking), data ports, card expansion, all kinds of nifty shit ... it was the design precursor to the iMac and all other modern apple stuff

and it kinda flopped and was more pain in the ass than it was worth.. everything it did, probably more useful on a handheld device

but it also spawned an entire generation of stuff, so who knows what kind of sexy overpriced fascist computing devices this could mutate into

edit: THAT SAID, i'd love to play some Labyrinth, Vector Ball and hardcore Freecell on this thing

on the apple site it says this Kindle/iPhone hybrid will start @ $499 USD. well under what we all expected. I bought my girlfriend a Kindle for xmas and was really impressed with it's form and execution of concept. it does appear that a hand held larger scale media device is our future. I'm just not sure that this iTampon will be worth it. I do however see (or at least hope to see) the Kindle replacing printed books within the next few decades. and maybe the iPon will take the place of notepads and office binders in the future as well. who the F knows. Computers were supposed to take place of paper files 20 years ago weren't they? I guess now that it is in your had it will feel more like paper. but sometimes i do miss a hand scribbled note and someone telling me i'm a jackass to my face.

Boston accent jokes are funny.

I've put off reading this forum as long as I can stand it. Avid Iphone user, and I'm appauled by the faggotry of Apple.
I won't even get into the Iphone's non-functional background that everyone already knows.
The things it does do, it does them exceptionally well.

For something the size of the Ipad, that like most have said is basically their way into the Netbook Market. COME ON! I should be able to sit down and open my web browser and watch fucking flash video's. This is total utter fucking bullshit, and it has to end somewhere.... <-- This part is serious.... This next part, serious but funny. If I want to watch free streaming porn while I'm taking a break at work, or class or something. I should be able to do it damn it! Don't get me wrong, I'd use this thing every day, if it had the capabilities of a Netbook. BUT WHY? it does what my Iphone does. Most can buy a decent netbook for this, or hell, little more you can even by a mac and get way more functionality. If they don't change something, this will be the biggest gadget flop of 2010 in my opinion. Just so much potential literally wasted, because Apple can't get their head out of their asses.

My next purchase of a device in that market segment is going to be a swivel screen dual-core netbook tablet.

There's just no reason to buy anything less powerful when you know those are already in the pipeline.

You know what would have been cool, if it were a docking station for an iPhone. No need for it's own storage, wifi or 3G (and no extra data plan). It's just a device that makes your iPhone screen huge. If they could drop the price in half at the same time (the same as a Kindle), they might have actually been innovative.

Also, I found this in a quick search:

http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/asus-ee ... =mncol;lst

It has most of the stuff people say are missing from the iPad, is cheaper and came out 6 months ago.

The screen on that Asus is too small. I've used the micro-screen netbooks and nothing under 10 inches satisfies me.

What? So I'm a size queen...sue me!

I was really digging it until I realized a few things:

1) I want something that size to such as the Dell or HP mini - but it has to run an OS - Strike 1
2) I could replace the Nook I just got and get a color screen, etc. - but I now have to shop on Apple's book site and the list of file support is even more limited than the Kindle - Strike 2
3) It's touting all these capabilities, but it's still got a teeny freakin' hard drive - if a quality movie is 4gb, then it means almost every time you want to go out, you have to load the damn thing - Strike 3

What's really sad to me is that all of those things could be done, but the choice has been to not do them.

Haha, in one of the write ups I read, one of the virtues the author extolled was how easy the device would be to use one handed.

I'm skeptical of the ereader functionality of this thing...as I understand it, the big draw of ereaders is the use of the eink technology, so that you can read without the eye strain of looking at a computer monitor. I don't see how this would be any different than reading on a laptop, other than being conveniently hand held. I also don't like the idea of having to get any ebooks through iTunes.

And yeah, even the version with the largest storage is only 64 gb...that's puny by today's computing standards. And not even a USB port to put a thumb drive in? I'll pass.

My point wasn't to try to sell you one of those, it was to show that someone's already made something that's fixed all of the issues people already have with the iPad and they did it cheaper. Apple's device that hasn't even come out yet is behind the curve.
