I do this with Truckers all the time. I flash my brights a couple times to let them know they are clear to come into my lane as well. I learned it from some road trips with my Uncle. Those guys are on the road day in and day out and I bet they appreciate it when you are courteous due to the tons of dicks they have to deal with on the road.

All the time. It's cool when you let them over in front of you and they give a little flash back.

Just did this a week or so ago. Trucker needed to get around a truck driving MUCH slower, so I toggled my fog lights to let him know he had room and was good to change lanes. He flashed his lights to say thanks afterward.
I threw Wizards before they were cool.

I always give truckers courtesy. I was on a road trip with a buddy about 15 years ago and our van died in the hills of Wyoming. The plan was for my buddy to hitch back into town while I wait with the van. He wasn't even across the median when a truck was pulling over to pick him up. A trucker that had passed us got on the radio and told anyone heading back into town to look out for us. Then the trucker that picked up my friend got on the radio and actually got this girl to meet him in town and drive my friend to a U Haul place to rent a van with a trailer. Three hours later we are back on the road. So a bunch of very cool truckers saved us from a potentially crappy day.

I do this all the time. I even do it to other vehicles if it's at night and I don't think they would be able to see me wave in appreciation. I learned it from my dad who is like the most courteous driver left on the planet.
I'm always amazed when I flash my lights and let somebody over and they don't even have the courtesy to wave - much less tap their hazards. Its usually when I'm driving in the city - AKA anxiety attack central.

I do it about a hundred times a day. I am a trucker.
And if a four wheeler (all of you) flashes me to let me over I always appreciate it and flash my trailer's clearance lights to say thank you.
BTW lights off and on is preferred over the use of high beams especially at night.

And for anyone that has questions about why truckers do this or do that there is a thread on a trucking message board where people can have their questions answered by truckers.
Here is the thread:
