I am also bummed I didn't get to see the Dead live. I have a few live shows on cassette that sound pretty cool.

i followed up on the thread and got all 18 grateful dead albums...just to add to my collection....listened to 5-6 of the albums....good music to chill out too...

I would say live dead from 1977 is my favorite a lot of my favorite songs made their debut that year.

My older brother was a big deadhead in the 80's so I got used to have a lot of bootleg tapes. Then I got into Phish and left the dead behind. Now that I'm getting a bit older I do like going back to listen to older Dead shows,

I really like going on to Llama to either download shows or to stream shows, http://www.archive.org/browse.php?collection=etree&field=%2Fmetadata%2Fcreator there are a total of 2,872 live archived GD shows on there and a ton of other great bands

I really like the New Years Eve run from 1990 that was the time when Bruce Hornsbey was playing keyboards for them and Brandford Marsilis sat in w/ the dead for some awesome stuff.

Wow asking what songs to get a hold of is like asking which coffee ground makes the pot taste good. Getting a grip on the studio stuff and then hitting up the live stuff is probally a good call. Jerry Garcia Band has the best studio stuff IMHO. The Dicks Picks stuff is just plain addictive. Gotta get'em all, gotta get'em all. I think its #2 or 3 early 70's from pembrook pines FL. Awsome show. Jerry goes mad in the second with a long run of tunes. I think its.....Eyes of the world > wharf rat >lady with a fan >Morning Dew. and the AMdew is just sick. Wharf Rat I think is the tune that got me hooked. Istarted seeing them in 87 and didn't stop till the last show at soldier field in Chi-town( the best Black muddy river I ever heard) Over 180 shows including JGB. Don't get me started about Old and In the Way.
