Anyone grow up in a ignorat town like Memphis? I played basketball almost every day from 15 to 24 with my buddies before we started hucking Discraft plastic while playing Ultimate in 1991. The black folks (yes I still say black) I played ball with wouldn't have taken kindly if I disagreed with their bullshit traveling call and told them that niggers are better off eating watermelon or something stupid and dangerous like that. I've had my share of scuffels on the court and tempers rise pretty quick around here even faster than the temperature in August. One August a jugbutt even went to his car a came back with a gun in his pants. Nowadays, idiots like I was then mighta got dead like two rappers caught up in a East coast West coast thing. Its been my experience that's its difficult to come from a totally different place and try to empathize with someone. The N word has so many bad meanings around here that its very hard for those that have lived with such intense racism to let it go and get past all those negative implied connotations. The response that sticks in my mind came from my buddy when called nigger, "Man, I got to beat all that?", to that I am stoned. No way I'll ever understand where he's coming from so out of respect for him and others "N word" makes most points well enough for me and I question those that don't get the weight of the slam to the african american race.
