I'm looking for a program that would allow me to edit MP3's or other audio files. It needs to be able to create new files as well. Is this something itunes can do and I am just missing it or is it an entirely different program. Would rather it be free or something off the internet. Can anyone suggest one to me?
Thanks!

What kind of "editing" are you looking to do?

look up audacity you might need the LAME(mp3) plugin, but it can do it for sure.

I used mixman studio to splice and join mp3's a while ago. Of all the mp3 editing software it's the best one I've used. I think it cost like $50, but I think I have it on a cd somewhere around here. I'll look for it if you want to try it out.

I have some songs that I want to shorten up so that I can use them as ringtones on my phone. I also want to cut and paste some other songs to make like a compliation type thing.

Do you have a motorola phone?
If so the motorola phone tools allows you to cut down mp3's to use as ringtones. I've used it to make ringtones on my razr.
I can send it to you if you want.

That's the program I use to cut mp3 files to use as ringers on my Motorola ROKR. Works fantastic and its amazingly simple. First 15 cuts are free. After that, send me a message and I can help you out.

Thanks for suggesting audacity! I have used it and it works exactly for what I needed. I actually went with a sony ericsson phone and so far everything is great!
Thanks everyone!

You can also use audacity to record audio from movies and videos on your computer. I got some clips from the chappelle show as my ringtone, and I'm looking for new funny ringtones from movies to use.
