I've been meaning to install Ubuntu on my laptop. Does Linux take some getting used to?

It'll take some getting used to, but it's nothing major... On a laptop though, I can't say I'd recommend it. You'll most likely lose the ability to use the buttons that do things like dim/brighten your screen, change volume, etc. and the sleep mode stuff isn't quite 100% in linux, yet.
