As for the Berserk recommendations, Berserk Is one of the best anime series I've ever seen with one of the worst endings. Still very enjoyable because the rest is so good, but seriously, the ending is bad.

Funimation released both seasons in one thinpak, it's still almost $50.

If you have a sense of humor, you owe it to yourself to watch Astro Fighter Sunred.

Yeah, in the books Guts and Casca get saved by the Skull Knight who is never introduced in the anime.

A little different than most of what's mentioned in this thread but I could see people enjoying it.

http://www.ninjai.com/

I wouldn't recommend it during work due to language and blood.

:D I like that guy too. Some people hated him. Once I got passed the third chapter I was hooked. Too bad they never finished it.

I always wanted a disc dyed with ninjai or "little bird" on it

this is a good thread despite Zam's objections.

I couldn't get my girlfriend into FLCL. She thought it was too weird (which is what i thought made it so good). I also agree that man English Dubs sound like garbage. My girlfriend on the other hand loves her native spanish dubs. I've watched some anime in french and in spanish and i'll say that they do sound better than english. I think some of it has to do with the american attitude towards animation; meaning it is only for kids. Even the "high class" Miyazaki films with big name actors doing the voicing sound like they are phoning it in. I still prefer the subtitles to dubbing because i pay more attention to the story rather than cringe at the english voice acting. I will say that dubbs from Canada usually sound better.

now here are my recommendations:

TRIGUN
Hellsing
Perfect Blue
Millennium Actress
Spriggan (not that great but fun)
Kai Doh Maru
Blood: The Last Vampire
Voices of a Distant Star
Vision of Escaflowne

These last three are my all time favorites:
Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade
GunnM: Battle Angel
Serial Experiments: Lain

keltik:

i find nowadays there are a lot more quality dubs than there used to be. anything dubbed by bang/zoom and most of the newer funimation dubs are at least decent in a sense that they don't ruin a series with poor voice acting. i prefer quality voice actors to big name screen actors who for some reason get cast as a voice over... although orson wells as unicron in the original transformers movie was the bomb.

GunnM: Battle Angel is the only thing on your list that i haven't seen or own (and haven't watched yet).

my current fav series (stuff that got rated 8.5/10 or better by me):
beck - mongolian chop squad
cowboy bebop
saikano
samurai champloo
elfen lied
last exile
speed grapher
black lagoon
basilisk
berserk
black lagoon
death note
fruits basket
gungrave
gunslinger girl
gurren lagann
mushi-shi
when they cry

when they cry is really really disturbing/creepy hehe. just finished that tonight.

yah. it's one of the few though-provoking series that have managed to do a decent social commentary and still be entertaining. the message board suicide meetup group was by far my favorite episode of the series.

it wasn't my favorite series but i enjoyed it.

Anyone seen Blassreiter? Looks bloody, was wondering if it's worth the time. There's so much bad anime these days. :|

i've heard mixed things. from how it looks, it'll be pretty average for the style.
