Rancho and San Marino Rocs

With the added availability of Sannies these days, how do the flight characteristics vary from Rancho Rocs? I'm primarily thinking of new Champ San Marino Rocs like those of the '08 USDGC. Do you think it's a noticeable, significant difference?

I threw both the original San Marinos and the new molds that are coming out now. Can't speak for the originals since they were beat, but the new ones fly very straight out of the box. I would compare it to a DX Rancho Roc that has been seasoned for a few months. I have a hard time flipping a brand new Rancho Roc, but apply the same power to a San Marino and it will hyzer-flip very nice. A champ San Marino will be a straight flier for a long time.

If someone made a comprehensive list of Rocs, ( the variations, molds, flights) could it be made into a sticky?

No offense to the original post, just getting very redundant.

Once all the redundant Roc threads disappear, the next thing you know you guys will be complaining that there are never any new threads.

Redundant Roc threads are the bread and butter of every disc golf message board.

If you really want to kill all the traffic on on the equipment section, add an Eagle/TeeBird sticky to that!

Here's my question:

If this is true for San Marino Rocs. Would a noob like myself, whose form and technique are improving benefit from throwing San Marino Rocs? Would it be better for me to learn how to throw DX Rancho Rocs or San Marino Rocs? Which disc would be better to learn the correct throwing form for a noob?

Ontarios are the least stable. If you're a noob, they would be the easiest to throw. Think seasoned roc out of the box

Or should I just buy a bunch of Ontario Rocs and wait until I'm experienced to buy the San Marino Rocs?

I'd just buy Ranchos and deal with them being overstable at first. I'm sure you can find some used ones via trade, eBay or used sporting goods stores if you want to. That or just use the Ranchos a lot until they get beat up.

Depends what you want. Throw what feels good in your grip.

Ontarios are least stable, ranchos are most stable, sannys are in the middle. Just go from there

Ontario's are least stable- do you mean by least stable that they are overstable or understable?

Rancho's are the most stable- meaning that they fly straight for the longest period of time with minimal low speed fade at the end?

San Marino's are in the middle- meaning that they fly?

San Marino - High Speed stable. Stay straight for a long time before minimal fade.
Ontario - High Speed stable, but easier to manipulate to track to the right. Minimal fade.
Rancho - High Speed Stable. Enters the low speed portion of it's flight before either of the other 2, and has more fade than the other 2.


the differences between the 3 Rocs is more obvious as they break in.
