Softshell Jacket

Can anyone recommend any of the softshell jackets that are frequently on Steep and Cheap...brands like Marmot and Back Country seem to be on there a lot.

I haven't even tried one on but they seem like the perfect winter jacket for DG.

I picked up a North Face Apex one a while back from SAC - it was real cheap because of the ugly patches on it

It's been great so far, and I can't complain because of the deal I got, but if you can find one with pit-zips, I think that is the one you should get. I was even able to fold it up and stuff it in my bag a week ago when I overdressed for a low 30's round.

Marmot make top notch gear, you can't go wrong with them

The Backcountry labeled one looks pretty decent - not sure who makes them though.

SAC has a lot of Arc'teryx gear too, which is awesome stuff - watch the sizing though, some of their stuff runs small on folks.

I have the backcountry.com Shift softshell. It's really nice. It's made in Canada, and is cut and finished similar to Arc'teryx, so I suspect they may be manufacturing them. I grabbed it off sac for about $100 over a year ago, and wear it all the time.

My other favorite is any of the Marmot DriClime windshirts. Can't go wrong with those and they are fairly priced, retailing at around $100-120 I think.

I just picked up a Nautilus and a Salomon jacket from rei-outlet. Bothe under $40.

Keep an eye on clearnance stuff at Scheels, too. Their normal stuff can be pricey, but they have pretty good deals when they're looking to get rid of stuff.

It was nice, but would like something a little warmer. Going to REI in Atlanta this weekend to find a nice Softshell. I have been looking on the website, but just want to try them on before the purchase.

And whomever found a "soft shell" for $40, please tell me where...

the material alone is worth more than $40, atleast the scholler soft shell material that my Mtn. Hardware is made out of. Can't imagine that being a right price for good soft shell material.

i have a soft shell jacket that i got for free, it's by port authority and not hard to find for about $40 (it was a gift from a client, has their logo embroidered on it)... i'm not a big fan of it, too stiff and too hot. i used to have a schoeller jacket by rei that i liked better, though i mostly wore it around town and not for athletic stuff.

My wife ordered a back country shift for me today for Christmas. Hopefully it fits, got it for 96 on SAC. Sounds like they are easy to work with in the case of returns so we'll see.

Got my Marmot softshell from REI today. It took an hour to decide which one. Also picked up a pair of Salomon XA Pro Ultra GTX's they feel so good. Had to pick up a Powerball also: WARNING DON'T USE THE POWEBALL WHILE DRIVING.
