5-disc Battle Golf

For those who may not be familiar with the rules, 5-disc Battle Golf entails picking just 5 discs from your bag and playing heads up against another person... if you win a hole, you get to take one of your opponents discs (you have to win your discs back before you can win their's). First one to get all of his opponents discs wins (or whoever has the most discs after 18 holes)!!

We played this in our Winter Fun League last night and I was a little bit torn as to which 5 discs to chose before the round started. Choosing discs for a 5-disc round sounds simple enough, but knowing that I could very well lose some had me putting some more thought into it.

Anyway, I wound up rolling with:

2 Avairs (DX ching, and Champion)
z Buzzz
Star TL
Champion Orc

My logic being that it would be nice to have a backup putter, and that I could putt with the Buzzz if I really had too... and I could also use the Champ Aviar as a mid-type disc should the Buzzz get yanked (which it did - lol). I really wanted the Orc - but just for a few holes, and I think the TL would have worked there if I had too.

I wound up losing, but I did have 4 discs in my bag at the end of 18 (I was down to 2, before my charge).

Anyway, what would your abbreviated bag look like if you found yourself playing battle golf against a buddy on your home course?!?

I wouldn't play battle golf...all my discs (even the ones I don't use much) have become too personal to me to think about losing on a gamble (losing one to a rapid Oregon river was hard enough). The stakes alone would thus mess up my game because I'd be too nervous.

oh... yeah.... you get everything back after the round is over. I would never play otherwise... I'm not that good.

Umm, I don't think you are gambling for permanent disc gain/loss, it's just for the round, just for fun.

As for me, I'd pick:

Z Wasp
Z Wildcat

Since my course has so many pin placements, I need to seperate the 2, because I can reach every short pin there with a Roc or Wizard. In the longs, I'm lucky to reach with a distance driver. I went with the philosophy of 2 putters, to have a backup, and 3 versatile "drivers," so I don't have to throw putters off the tee.

Sounds odd I know....but I can putt with four of the discs If I had too....I can hyzer flip those cros' out to about 350-375'....and the trusty teebird is a must....maybe after I try this out with someone I will change my mind.

For those only bringing 1 putter or mid, keep in mind that if you lose the first hole then you are probably going to be without a putter or a mid.

It would depend a lot on the course but my bag would look a lot like...

2 BB aviars
2 Rocs
1 EagleX


Rocs are long enough to use off of the majority of Tees without losing much, so I could afford to lose the Eagle(chosen over a TB for versatility and fade). Or either a Roc or putter and still have 1 to spare.

Very neat concept, I'll have to try this out with a buddy sometime.
