Max strokes per hole (most attention grabbing topic evar!!1)

Is there a limit to the number of strokes you can be scored on for a hole? I have heard a couple of different things.

I've never heard of any limits during tournament play.

Somebody shot a precarious 20 or 20+ at Winthrop a year or two ago. It was the short hole with the bales in front and the lake behind. He threw almost every disc in his bag. So, in long, I don't think there's a limit.

I know that when somebody left one of our tourney's early (couldn't finish) they completed his score card with a 7 for every hole he missed.

I was wondering about the 7 stroke thing. All the tourney scores I've seen have shown DNF. This was league, so perhaps it was a penalty for showing up but not finishing (you could keep a low average by bailing if you were having a bad round).

No problem using 7s for league rules. I would like to see something like that in the regular PDGA rules since there are times when the player who is likely in the cash has to leave not by "choice" for an emergency including their own injury or to catch a plane when the round has been delayed due to earlier weather issues.

I saw a guy at a tournament chuck almost his entire bag into a large duck pond. Each lost disc was 2 strokes. Then he just barely got over the water hazard and then several more strokes to the basket.

No mercy. No maximum.

Good to know. I didn't know the answer to that one either.
If I ended throwing my whole bag on a hole and getting a 27 or so... yeah. I don't know how I'd recover from that...That's gotta hurt pretty hard on the mental game.

What happens if you throw all your discs in the water?

You can play with discs loaned from other players in the group or get more from your car during the round if you have time to get to it. Of course, if you've thrown them all in the lake, your opponents might not want to loan any to you...

Do you automatically get a 7? I always thought it was par + 4. Granted par + 4 usually is a 7.

I used to catch Hell from the PDGA Rules Gestapo because I used the ball golf tradition of double par and gave players a 6 for missed holes in my league, but Ed Headrick designed that course so getting a 6 was like getting a 7 or 8 on a modern course.

It is officially Par + 4. Unfortunately, even on courses with true par 4 or 5 holes, if the TD forgets to publish that those holes have pars higher than 3 - such as printed on the scorecard - then the default would be all par 3s which would then be 7s.
