Vandenberg Village (and AFB)

Postby Triplebogey » Thu Feb 12, 2009 10:43 pm

Has anyone else here ever played the courses at Vandenberg Village (behind the White Oaks Hotel) or the course on Vandenberg Air Force Base??

I learned disc golf (especially my short game) in VV.

My high school buddy (Cabrillio High School class of '89) Troy Thompson installed the couse on VAFB back in '98.

So was I! My dad was stationed there from '74 to '79. We then got orders for Offutt AFB in Omaha. He retired in '83 and we moved back to Vandenberg Village in '84, so I've been there most of my life. 8)

crazy... my stepdad retired 18 months after he got there and decided to retire to calm, soothing, relaxed Myrtle Beach, SC. See, that's how he remembered it 20 years before. LOL He drove up, saw the megaplex that it had become and turned around and left. Sorta funny. We ended up in VA and I've been here ever since.

I like that part of California a lot. Actually, I wouldn't at all mind settling down in SLO.

You must have been pissed when they moved you out to Omaha!

Vandenberg...Wish I could go out to the point as a civilian! I heard they let the public surf a beach there one day every year. Is the public course any good?

If you mean the one in Vandenberg Village, It's OK only if you aproach it as a par 2 course. It's very short (furthest hole is <250) 9 baskets and fairly flat but tightly wooded with Coastal Oaks and Pampass grass. It's better if you make up your own teepads.
