Discussion of plastics

Just a suggestion, but if you're looking for a way to sink more time into this site perhaps a section dedicated to describing some of the different types of plastics and how they potentially affect disc flight would be a useful addition. I realize that there are potentially unlimited different unique mixes of plastics and probably dozens of major mixes that have been widely used, but a few broad categories might help give beginners, or people who just haven't payed attention to the different plastics, a good starting point.

Of course all that could be there somewhere and I'm just missing it too...

Thanks! I think the way that article is set up is a really good overview of all of the currently produced plastics and why someone would consider buying one type of plastic over the other.

yeah, helped me out a bunch. Ive been talking to Blake_T for a while about getting more DX plastics instead of champions like ive been doing to help with my distance...
Didnt realize a few of the other reasons why, but that helped a ton.

Any chance we can get an update to the article with mention of Innova star plastic. I haven't bought this plastic yet, and I want to know how the sticyness compares to DX, which I too have learned is a better plastic for me until I get a better feel for the weights and flights I need.

star is going to feel like a more structural rigid pro plastic.

it will fly like flatter, more overstable champ plastic.

flat doesn't imply more overstable, but it does imply some tendencies...

i should write an article on that.

im sure all of us who read your articles religiously could benifit. Ive been skeptical and have yet to tried star (or any special blend) plastic yet.

Yes, an article that discusses the various aspects of disc flight from the point of view of disc design would be great. There, the plastics, the beads, lack of beads, weight, presence of dome, thick rims, thin rims, deep rims and weight distribution across the top, a little history on how disc flight has changed through the years based on disc design and innovations, different air pockets resulting from all this--how all this impacts flight, would be great. This would enable me to look at a disc and guess how it might fly without throwing it.

Blake answered the question about distance I asked somewhere in another thread, the order of max distance for the type of plastic.

For Discraft plastic it was: x -pro d- z with x yeilding more distance and z the least.

I hesitate to ask about grippiness due to different interpretations.
