shoe wear

Postby chunk » Fri Apr 24, 2009 9:18 am

i'm beginning to wonder if there is a correlation between my weight and how fast i tear through shoes playing disc golf. i weigh ~ 235lbs and most shoes only last a few rounds until major wear starts showing up. and then it's only a few more before the soles start separating. most of the wear occurs under my big toe on my left foot (rhbh).

are any skinny guys having similar problems or is it only us clydesdales?

Are you dragging your foot on run ups?

Instead of buying expensive shoes, I use old shoes. The wear just makes them cooler. However, everyone I see at league or tournaments has hikers. A pair of old walking shoes is more than enough to work on the Snow Bowl course in Flagstaff, and it's got some hiking.

no, i think its from the push off in my drive. then concrete teepads compound the problem.

I was going to comment in the Keen thread about this... but I'm thinking it's more of a "you" thing than a shoe thing. Sorry I can't offer any other insight than that.

I normally tear through shoes, but that has more to do with my lack of heel rotation. I put a lot of torque on the horizontal part of the shoe, often ripping the outer side at the start of the toebox. Solomons hold up very well, as are my Chacos.

I'm one of those lighter guys (5'4" 130 lbs).

are you buying shitty shoes? thats the only way id think they would break so fast. im around 220 and i get around 6 months or so out of a good pair of hikers (Salomon,Montrail,Vasque,Merrell) another thing ill mention is to stay away from most "trail runner" type shoes if you want durability, they just arent made for the wear and tear of DG

hmmmmm, well id say just buy from REI then, they will take them back FOREVER if they keep failing in a week, my most durable DG shoes have always been either Salomon or Vasque hikers (both run pretty slim though so if you have wide ass feet they are probly a no go), least durable have been Salomon trail runners

I'm 6'3", 300lbs and I've been wearing the same Merrell Chameleons for the last 18 months. At least 3 rounds a week, sometimes more. The rubber at the tip of my toe is starting to separate some, but it's still plenty attached.

I don't know chunk, this Clydesdale doesn't have the same problems, I think it may be you...

I'm a big guy, 6'5" 280lbs (DING!!!!), and I have more problems with the material upper than the soles. I've mainly been wearing North Face since Sept, and I also have some Salomons that I wear every once in a while. The salomons were a replacement pair from when I blew out the upper on my lat pair. They were 9 month old. TNF shoes are great, but the upper is tearing and the goretex leaks, so I'm sending them in for return.

I wore merrell chamellions for 1 1/2 years and finally retired them because the inside heal had totally been ripped out. The sole showed wear, but still had a lot of life in them.

I've been interested in them ever since they came out... I need to try shoes on before I buy though. As soon I see 'em in a store, I have to think I'lll get a pair they look sweet

(I love my sandals too!)
