most likely not hard, but I imagine that $$ are the reason this is not possible.

It's as simple as changing a single thing on the admin control panel and the amount of storage space PMs take up is very small and unlikely to require any change in the hosting contract for more space even if everyone had more in their inboxes. I imagine there's a limit set because there's just no need for huge amounts of PM space, 200 is a lot more messages than you're going to have any reason to keep around long-term.
