Weighing Discs

I have always been curious about how much my discs actually way. My gf, who is much smarter than I am, suggested I get a "digital diet scale." Do these work? What do other people use to weigh their discs?
How surprised will I be at what my discs actually weigh?

I over 80 of them right now between my discs and my gfs. I plan on having a big DG nerd dics weighing session some day soon. If anyone cares I'll post my results.

I use a $30 digital kitchen scale, it works great.

Check the local head shop or adult video center. They will have digital scales for roughly $25-30.

Or Ebay.

I've noticed most of my discs are slightly different then marked.

I used to use the scale at the lab where i worked to measure changes in mass (not weight) between rounds. I had one wizard lose a grand total of .31g in a week. Crazy huh? I realized measuring discs precisely was useless for me.

Bought my digital scale at Office Max, about $20, and it's invaluable. You can get them cheaper on ebay. You will find great variation in what's written on the disc and actual weight. I've found Gateway is most squirrelly, followed closely by Innova; Discraft less so (I had a "171" Glow Wizard that weighed 164). I once went through a bin of the club's Innova stock and found more than 50% of the discs were off. Granted most were a gram high or low, but many were as much as 3 or 4 grams off.

Make sure the scale you get can weigh up to at least 180g. The one I got as a hand me down from a buddy is only good for things < 150g.

Actually no. We're talking weighing to the gram vs to the hundredth of a gram. My not-a-kitchen-scale can't handle anything over 100g.

Spin that's very different from my experience. I've seen the biggest gaps from my innova discs. Average I'd say of about 3 grams off, white gateway stays 1 or 2 grams off.

$20 is well spent when stack becomes pile of discs, just to be sure they 'compare'. I find few to be actually lower, and more to weigh higher, most within 2gr, except +3 for Innova. Not that I can really tell the difference between base plastic wear vs mass on used discs....

Marshall Street numbers always match within one somehow

Actually, within about a half gram so long as we're concentrating hard enough, and there is no human error... heh...

For the past few months we've been quietly weighing every disc that comes in the shop. We've got about 85% of our discs weighed now. WAPITA.

The expectation is to offer them up on a new website coming in the near future, that will allow a customer to search for their discs by not only the manufacture'rs weight, but also the Marshall Street Weight. It will open up the "great big wool covering our eyes" as to how much some of these discs (weight) are off.

I got one on Ebay also, I think it was 8 or 9 bucks but free shipping from Hong Kong.
