Dog Leg Right off the tee - Not a Stingray - ???

I am looking to replace a Champion Stingray for the two Dog Leg Rights on my home course...

It doesn't go right enough...

I really don't want to throw a DX Stingray...

What are my other choices - any brand... any plastic...

I like to use a star sidewinder for dog legs that go to the right (RHBH). I believe the champion sidewinder is a bit more understable than the star plastic and would work as well. The champion roadrunner is also a good understable disc.

well I'm not sure what you could throw. If it is very sharp and you have room to hold a line, I would throw one of my wizards. I have a "steady" ed gummputt disc that I use for short sharp angles and different dergrees. I have beat it in alot and it is very floppy in the hand, but I can hold what ever line I want with it. It takes a good snap/flick of the wrist. How long of a hole are we talking?

The one hole in particular is posted as 315 - dog legs about 50 feet out but you are faciing the pond at about 185 out from the tee pad that sits at the top of a hill...

Sounds like a fun hole. lol You might try improving on a sidearm technique. I usually only throw sidearm from around 300ft in, so If I were in your shoes, then I would be throwing above my abilities-which never works. Some times I'm faced with a obstacle such as yours, and I just throw an understable driver at 50% strength. You know it will drop to the right, you just have to judge the distance. Other than that Im not sure, someone else will prob give their imput later.

Good advice.

I really don't like sounding so "disc dependent" but two shots every round on a course I play almost everyday would be worth of a place in my Deluxe bag.

I just don't know what the "disc" would be.

I have thinned out my bag of overlapping discs but I have this big gaping hole for a "hard right" disc.

Your on the right track though. Everyone has their "go-to" disc and certain discs for certain shots. Its all about having a disc in your hand that you are comfortable with and you know that you could throw the same shot twice-back to back. Try and find a place that is big enough for you to visualize that same hole, so you can pratice the shot without the fear of losing a disc. good luck bro.

It depends on how much power you have, I would suggest a beat DX Valkyrie, DX Stingray (I know you said you dont like them... but they're money.) I believe a Comets I've heard work for those as well, with good power, it will flip late in its flight. A Valkyrie would be a good bet in terms of predictability of having it flip, maybe in the 170 weight range...

i agree with weebl. dx valkryie or dx stingray would work good. i freaking love my dx stingrays... they fly way better than the champion, you just really need to learn how to throw them since they are unique.
have you considered an X stratus? i like them better than champ stingrays too, and would use it on a similar shot. a dx cobra would also be similar to a dx stingray but more stable which i think is what you're looking for. just some suggestions of things i'd rather throw than a champion stingray. all of these discs will be harder to reach the fade portion with but will be easier to turn and have much more glide.

the optimizer is a bit less stable than a stingray, but you may need to put some hyzer on it to keep it from rolling.

I personally would throw a sidearm.

i use a elite xl 171 or a se teebird 169/175 (depending on on how soon i want it to flatten out). if i need a sharp turn with a really late flatten out i use a dx roc 168. srry but f-ing hate the stingray! i just find the sidearm to not be as accurate as a well placed anie.

Like the Roc, stingrays grew on me slowly... now I am in love with the old faithfuls (Roc, Stingray, TeeBird, Valkyrie) the only thing that was difficult for me to throw the stingray was the shallow rim, but after adjusting my grip, it was love at first sight.

Broke down last night and bought a Star Stingray 169g off of Ebay.

I figure I will throw the star stingray cuz it is more durable but more closely mimics the DX characteristics... if you believe what you read...

Star is more overstable than Champion from my experiences, but for the Champion Stingray they used the ontario mold, which is less understable than the San Marino Stingray mold (The mold used for DX Stingrays). I wonder which mold they used for the Star Stingray...
