USDGC Driving Showcase across lake

Postby Chuck Kennedy » Sun Oct 11, 2009 9:51 pm

Here are a few clips from the Showcase event where the top throwers from the distance competition get to throw across the lake just before the USDGC Awards ceremony on Saturday. The last clip is Jeremy Koling (Advanced World Champ 2008) who they think is the first to clear the lake with a forehand. Click to go full screen so you can see the disc better.

Thanks for the link Chuck.
To everyone else: you have to be there to appreciate their distance. Rediculous bombs!

That forehand is ridiculous.

The throw looked short and effortless, and didn't look as fast as the backhands, but it carried soooooooo far.

Does Jeremy just have meathooks for hands?

Jeremy is a big guy; looks like a slim rugby player.
But I didn't check out his hands, sorry.

His entire body is set up for that "whip". Huge guy at 6' 6" I would think, and an arm span that has to be larger than his height. Its fun playing rounds with him, but you can't steal any of the lines he takes because I don't think there is anyone who has as smooth a sidearm as he does.

Could be a problem at your end. I just clicked on it and it started right up.

Did Wiggins Jr not play in the USDGC or just not toss in the distance comp?

I believe he didn't make the Finals but I never saw the list of the best tosses of those who entered the prelims to be sure he entered.

I forgot to mention how much lower Avery's drives were compared to everyone else's. Even if Maceman wasn't announcing who was throwing, I could tell when Avery was throwing because his lines were so different from the others'. He threw a few on the big D line that the others used but usually they were significantly lower.

And I thought it was cool to see Coda haphazardly rip a 500' line drive in the prelims. That thing never got more than 4' off the ground and it looked like he just smoothed it; no muscle involved.

Coda is amazing. I love playing with him. haven't seen him much since he moved to Tulsa.

I think he and Matt Orum are the 2 funnest throwers out there to watch. Orum generates power out of nowhere; I swear it's a violation of the law of conservation of energy.
