Top 5 Most Accurate Fairway Drivers??

Postby JHBlader86 » Wed Dec 16, 2009 3:35 pm

What do you all think they are?? I'm wanting to experiment more in the fairway driver department, and would like to know what the majority consider the Top 5. Thanks!

What do you mean by accurate? Does accurate mean line shaping? Straight shots? predictable? I can be accurate with any of the discs listed below but the 5 in the first list are the ones I prefer and fit my throwing style the best.

anyway I would guess (even without accurate defined) this is a pretty good list in no particular order:

JLS
Teebird
Stalker
Eagle
XL

other discs that can get mentioned depending on definition:

Cyclone
Sabre
Gazelle
Striker
Leopard
Cheetah
DX firebird

I would define it as a combination of line shaping and predictability. If I want the disc straight, hyzer or anhyzer I can do that with the same disc. I currently use TeeBirds as my fairway driver, but they arent the greatest on anhyzer lines so versatility would be a big factor.

I love a medium worn eagle X. Still had enough fade to throw a good s curve, will hold a hyzer the who way, or pretty decent anny. The Eagle will get out to 400'ish if you really get on it too. It will do everything a fairway driver needs to do.

LEOPARD is what your looking for. A 175 champ will hold anhyzer and not turn roller. The same disc will land damn near perfectly in front of you if thrown flat. ("glides" out to the right, doesn't flip to a big anhyzer angle then go right). And the same disc is perfectly suited for throwing hyzer (just put another 5 degrees of hyzer on it)....... Also the shot that the leopard is money for, is the 350 second shot on a par 4 where you want the disc to land flat and not skip away from the zone. Leopard's thrown flat will sit down very very predictably.

So my votes would be for
1. Champ Leopard
2. DX Teebird
3. Cyclone
4. Eagle
5. Gazelle

don't forget Predator for its predictable flight and robustness in wind conditions

if you can throw FH and BH equally well, a predator will give you great line shaping abilities in the R-L and L-R departments...if you throw it correctly, it can also go staight or do S-curves.

or combine it with an eagle or cyclone for s-curves,
then maybe add a beat in DX teebird for flip-flat straight drives, and you're in business

These threads should always be titled what is your favorite ______ instead of Top 5 or the best, because that's what they always turn into. Or parrot me the DGR mantra of _____ type of disc or shot.

I've been using the following.
171 Champ 11x Teebird. - Straight, nice long left fade.
150 Star (12x???) Teebird - Barely flips sometimes, and will fly nice and glide farther usually than the champ.
170 CFR TL - Duh, dead nuts straight shots, or barely left fade
164 Star TL - Dead nuts straight, or slight right turn over.
(Did have 165 S-EX here) But, just couldn't get it to flip for shit.
Champ 150 Leopard - Good turnover disc.
DX 150 Leopard - Maximum turnover, and will glide right for a long, long time.

I know that's only four, but I can get everything out of those I need. For hard over stable, a lot of people say the Predator is more a fairway, and I always have one in the bag.

If you versatility and are already throwing teebirds get a couple of DX EXs, I think you will be quite happy with the range of shots they cover. If you want something that can really just do the anhyzer more while using your teebirds for straight and hyzer shots get an XL, JLS, or Leopard.
