Wizard school

DGR has comet lovers... temple of the roc... we had a brief stint with beast lovers... and I guess harry potter fits in here somewhere.

Anyway, we get a lot of reoccurring threads about wizards (and rightfully so since they are possibly the best discs ever) so lets start 1 thread for wizard chit chat.

Wizards are awesome. They've been in my bag longer than any other disc (going on 6 years).

I'll kick it off with a little wizard porn. This is a small sample of my stash.

I've been playing with my 150 gram Wizards and they have the ideal characteristics of a driver putter (wow, big surprise, right?) but have the added bonus of a slower drop rate when you use them for putting.

If you don't mind mixing up your disc weights then you might be really interested in a 150g Wizard.

I switched to 168g Wizards last summer for putting and short approaches/drives, and have found exactly what you're talking about. If I want to stretch the wizard out for bigger distances, I need a heavy one, but the 168g perform very nice for short drives, and they drop much slower than their max weight counterparts.

I plan on buying a Wizard for the first time soon. I'm thinking I want either a black one or an organic one. What should I know about selecting a good Wizard before I head to the store to check them out in person? I know a lot can depend on person tastes, but what characteristics mean what with the Wizards?

The Wizard in my opinion is the best putter on the market. The BEST driving putter hands down and once they beat in they become even better.

I personally like the below Wiz along with the old circle tooling and no tooling wiz or the wizards thats say Wizard in the cape.

I just got a couple more organic proto Wizards from MS and I still have yet to find a better combination of firm plastic with a tack feel. Though we are of course talking about Gateway so the firm thing varies from one organic to the next.

I have a lot of wizards and love all of them.

About a year ago I started throwing 170-172 wizards as my driving putters and got better distance than my 174-175 ones and that is what I have been using since. I do have some 175 ones around for those windy days.

Wizards...my first and only putter. I use firmer S Wizards from 169-175 for all putting and driving duties.

I like the flight of Champ BB Aviars better for driving, but prefer the shallower rim of a Wizard, so I've given up on the Aviars (for now.)

I prefer Wizards. They feel so good in my hand and they are VERY good for driving and putting.
Now I own 8 but I have ordered 4 couple days ago. I like medium plastic most.

I would rather go to a temple of roc than a school for wizards. That said wizards are excellent putters, but they never stuck for me.

I love me some Wizards. I wanted it because I am a mold minimalist and wanted a putter good for both driving and putting and the Wizard came highly recommended. I had my fun with the Warlock for a while but always came back to my Wizards. I putt with 168-170s (SSS) and drive with 175s (OG). I wish I could have a stack of the old school circles but I got into them way too late for that.

As a side note I have started using DX Rocs for most of my shots that I used to use a driving Wizard for so they have really been relegated to putting/up shots only.

I went out a did a little bit of fieldwork today with 6 wizards. I had planned mostly working on standstill approaches of 50-60 meters, and some longer ones. Now since Im in the field I cant help myself trying to huck some with good form. I got two out to about 100 meters (330). So yeah Wizards are terrific driving putters.

And incidentally I think this is going to be a fantastic throwing year

How long should it take to beat the fade out of an SS Wizard? I play on fairly wooded courses if this helps. Also, which Wizard plastic is best for driving?
