Critique my drives!

Postby patdabunny » Sun Apr 04, 2010 5:30 pm

Here they are. Both are 80% power with echo star teebirds that went maybe 300'. Wasn't trying to get a full rip, just wanted to get a video of my form. Pretty typical. When I really try to strong arm it, it will go maybe 40-50' further. The form is not that much different. Slightly longer reach back when I try to get more D. Anyway, here they are. I'll answer questions as they come up, if you have any...

BTW, the drives were flat and were maybe 15' off the ground the entire flight.

Here's the link to them:

Thanks!

I have nothing really helpful to say, but that looks like a lot less than 80%.

some things i see right away...

1. you gotta drop your shoulder on the reach back.
2. you are not quite getting to that pec position
3. pull in tighter
4. you are decelerating through the power zone

work on the first 3 before you move on to the last one.

seems like you are not pulling hard to start out with which is fine, but you are slowing down upon release so you are moving slower right before and after the release than you are when you are pulling through. try thinking of it as moving your hand faster after the release then before/at the release.

that may cure your grip problems as well.

Gotcha. I highly suspected #4, as I mentioned in the other thread. I didn't realize my pull through was so low. I was really surprised by it. Drop which shoulder on reach back? R or L?

Gotcha. After watching the hip videos you and another guy posted here, I am going to try that in practice. That should help with the arm speed at the hit. I think THAT is the main problem holding me back from hitting 400' consistently.

It does, doesn't it? I was really surprised by how lacidaisical it seemed. But it certainly didn't feel it, you know?

the low pull through is a good thing.

drop your right shoulder and finish high with it at the follow through.

Won't this lead to nose up throws and altitude problems?

What do you mean that I'm not getting to the pec position? I don't quite understand what you're saying...

Yeah man, I get kinda jealous how some people can just "smooth" it out so far. I'm hoping to get a vid up soon so everyone can tell me why I suck!

Don't worry about it...I've been reading and trying to improve for almost 10 years now and I still can't break 400' regularly (unless there's a 100' cliff around... ) That's why i'm asking the big dogs (aka MB) what the hay they're doing different than me...

Ok, so I go out to the local football field to see what I could incorporate today. I tried the "pull with your hips, and when it gets to your chest, pull hard as heck with your arm" technique. Wow! Instantly went from 330' or so to almost 400'! I was throwing past the goalposts and it was still 7-10' in the air when it went past them! I threw past the goals with pro katanas, orcs, surge SSs, and champ katanas. I couldn't believe it! My buzzzes went around 320', even into a headwind! My TBs were going really close to 350', the farthest I've ever thrown a TB (I know it's not long, but hey--work with me here...)

Thanks for all the advice and I hope to keep on improving!

Daniel

Congrats drledford93! Standstill or xstep?

All that extra spin you are getting keeps those discs stable! Go and try some really light weight drivers that you used to turn and burn and watch them soar now. That was the craziest thing to me. I could throw a 150g roc on a hyzer line to about 250. With a little more umph it'd flip flat and go 270 - 300!

My TBs were going really close to 350', the farthest I've ever thrown a TB (I know it's not long, but hey--work with me here...)

If that is from a standstill Blake says you are hitting it pretty well.

No, it's with an x-step. I just returned from working with mids with the fam this evening and I was getting my mids using Blake's grip tip and was getting them (z-buzzzes) out to a max of 350' with a headwind of about 7-10mph. No turnover. I thought it was a pretty good development...

One "problem" I was seeing prior to getting the mids out there that far this evening, was that earlier, my putters (aviar p&a) would go just as far as my buzzzes, regardless of wind. Again, no flip on my putters at all.

Thoughts?

What "grip tip" are you referring to?

Blake just posted it on 3/30/10. Look for it...it's pretty easy to find.
