2010 Amateur World Championships

Postby DiscinLeopard » Mon Apr 05, 2010 7:17 am

Anyone gonna be going to the Amateur World Championships this year? This will be my first year going and I am looking for someone who wants to split a campground and split gas driving from course to course.

I'm from Warren Ohio. I live about 160 miles from the campsite I will be reserving. Your tag says Northeast PA, where are you from?

well i cant say that i will come pick you up and take you to and from the event, but if you get out there let me know and we can split the campsite. I already have one person with me, but it's a 60x20 ft area that i get with electrical power so Im sure i can fit a few more people/vehicles in there.

Does anyone have any advice on the courses there? I am going to try to make it out there on my two days off this week or sometime before the actual tournament, but in case I have to go into it blind...

There will be warm-up tourneys before Worlds. The courses will be set up like they will be for Worlds, so if you can make it to these you will definitely get a feel for the courses. I'm pretty sure some people on here will hit the warm-ups if you don't and we'll have pretty good descriptions.

My work schedule is Tues-Sat 2-11pm and I'm off work on Sundays and Mondays. That warm up tournament looks cool and all, but I won't be able to make it to any of those if they are on Saturdays. Are they going to keep the courses set up for Worlds once they set up for this tournament or are they going to keep changing them back after the warm ups are done? I would really like to get there on the 18th (my day off) and play a round or two on the set ups to see how it's going to be.

I don't think there is any difference between the Worlds set-ups and day-to-day set-ups on the courses once they have been prepared for each of the events. I think only a few places have alternate pin placements and I suspect they will be kept in the Worlds spots once the warm-up event that includes that course has been run.

Sweet. I'm going to be going out there to camp at Alum Park if anyone wants to come throw a few rounds.

You do have to qualify for the event correct? Also do I have to be 935+ to sign up?

You might be thinking of the Am Nationals in Ann Arbor June 11-13 where you currently need to qualify and have a decent rating. To enter Am Worlds, which is the topic of this thread, you have to be a current PDGA Amateur member and either have gotten invited or wait until May 3 when it will be open to all Am members regardless of rating.

Ok who from DGR will be at AM Worlds this year? I sent my Reg in at 12:01 EST earlier and I'd like to meet some new peeps while I'm out there, some of my local friends will be there but any DGR peeps we should hang out and play some practice rounds together.

Let me know,
