Who has recently quit smoking cigarettes???

Postby biodarwin » Mon Apr 12, 2010 12:36 pm

Last night was 3 weeks for me. I already feel a ton better. I took patches for about 4 days then went cold turkey. I smoked about 1-1.5 packs per day.

I started again after 3 years of not last year. I have less than 10 a week.

I did the cold turkey thing as well.

Weird, I quit smoking about 3 weeks ago as well. I've been smoking pretty regular for 8 years and I'm done with it. Cold turkey. I've always said I could quit when I wanted to, so my ego is driving me to succeed here.

That's what I did to quit. Pride and metal tricks. Whatever I could do to make myself happy to not be smoking. Think about the money I could save, think about my health, think about people dying from it. Look at the people smoking and tell yourself "I'm better than that".

One thing I learned is you need to make the choice to be smoke free for life. I know if I smoke a cig here and there it's only a matter of time that I'm a full smoker again.

If looking cool is a concern, only listen to one song. "Stroke Me" by Billy squire is probably the best bet.

also peel out as often as possible. Espcially in front of women.

Been smoking since 16ish (24 now) and have had my bouts with quitting. It's hard because cigarettes are so easy to get and I genuinely do enjoy one from time to time. On the other hand, sometimes they make me feel like absolute ass.

Times I smoke the most:
Drinking (obviously)
Long car rides
Any car rides
Golfing
Disc golfing
#2'ing (haven't done that for a long time though cuz I haven't smoked inside any of my residences since college)
While drinking coffee

I hadn't smoked a cigarette this week and didn't really want one either. That all went out the window as I walked past a gas station on the way to playing some stick golf today... On the upside, I think my time of quitting is near. I've been in the gym an awful lot since this winter and smokes don't really fit into the mix. I remember HATING my dad smoking back in the day, I surely need to quit before I have some chillins (if I do).

Congrats to all of you guys that have quit, stay strong. You give me hope.

You got it man. A week, then two, then a month, then a year. I still get cravings and its been 5 years. You just need to know inside yoursef that you deserve better and you're not gonna be weak and give in. You really have to really want to quit and stay quit.

I try to remember what my mouth tastes like when I'm trying to fall asleep at night and all I can taste is cigarettes.
When I walk by someone at school who smells like smoke, I think to myself, Do I smell that bad too?
I've been jogging and playing a lot of D-golf as the weather has warmed and I feel so much better. Now my out of shape legs need to get in line with my motivation.

Here in Dallas, you are a pariah if you smoke, so socially I'm more accepted than ever before!!!
