Nice write up. I decided to try this as i have about 5 discs that I dont like to use at the local course because of their color. They are a pain to find in the tall grass.

I used the fallowing method

1. I washed the disc first with soap and water
2. Removed the stamp with acetone and rubbed the entire disc with it to hopefully help the dye set.
3. I mixed my Rit With regular liquid laundry soap
4. I let the disc set in hot water about 110 - 115 ish from the tap
5. I then applied the dye to the discs and am letting them sit ( ill try 5 days and see how they look)

I Have read about people using heat lamps or heating discs in oven to help get vibrant colors. I was a little leary on this as the possibility of having a disc ruined seemed more then I was willing to risk.

The dye is now dry to the touch and it has been 2 days. I’m still going to leave it the 5 days people have suggested but i wonder if it is dry if it even matters.

Check this out. I removed the front grill of my table fan and as luck would have it the little fish tank suction cups I have fit right on the end of the drive shaft. The motor seems plenty strong, but even the lowest speed is too fast once it gets going. I'm guessing I will have to either install a rheostat or just control the speed with pulses of juice.

After I construct an easily removable cardboard splatterguard it's spin-time for sure. I also need to learn how to remove the disc from the spinner without it landing jelly side down on the carpet.

I might have said that wrong, but I mean using water, soap (dish or laundry?) acetone, etc. in conjunction with rit dye (liquid or powder?) to get the most vibrant colors and consistent gel dye?

Different environments, different plastics, different detergents, different dyeperson behind the wheel... I know what you meant, but I still say that there is no such thing as the ultimate best dye formula. I will admit that there are certainly wrong answers, like rit, napalm, and catshit. There's just no way that would work.

I'd say that that only depends on what you feed the cat.
